Verses from the holy Quran are carved on the sandstone walls of the Qutub Minar. #Details A world heritage site, the Qutub Minar is a tall conical minaret, five stories tall with 379 steps to the top. It was built by the first Muslim ruler of Delhi Qutuab-ud-Aibak and construction began in 1200 AD but completed by his successors in the late 1300s. Hence each level shows different architectural styles. The first three storeys are made of red sandstone; the fourth and fifth storeys are of marble and sandstone. The tower is closed to the public but one can enjoy the exquisite carvings on the outside that reflect Indo-Islamic Afghan architecture. There is a lot to see in the Qutub complex including a mosque and an iron pillar of Delhi.
