Overall a good stay at Candlewood Suites

Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed and room was overall clean. Lighting was not sufficient for the room. More lamps or brighter light bulbs would have made the stay more pleasurable.

Everything in the room was clean and fully functional. The bed has a pillow top and was very comfortable. The gym had a good assortment of dumbbells, up to 50 lbs, and is colocated with the laundry room which was convenient.

Convenient location for visiting Notre dame university. Room clean, big and adequate. Did not like the stronge smell of chlorine in lobby area from laundry. Thought price of room expensive considering they only clean rooms once a week (did not know this without asking).

I have no complaints about the hotel itself, but I do have a complaint about the room's advertising. I paid for the 1 bedroom suite with a queen-sized bed and a let-out sofa. When I arrived, I was told that they no longer had those accommodations. If it’s not available, it should not be advised as an option. The hotel staff apologized for the inconvenience and did their best to make it right.

The doors had dirty hand prints down them and the baseboards were dirty. Tells me that cleanliness is not a priority. It was loud and someone tried to get into my room several times which woke me up.

Absolutely terrible. 3/4 seems to be “long-term” stays which you can tell . Got to my floor and whole entire floor reeked of cigarette smoke. Walked into my room and the same . Asked if this was non smoking and individual responded “supposed to be”. I said well maybe it’s the people that are sitting out front all smoking, flowing through the AC/ half the windows are open too and was told that doesn’t happen (saw it frequently ) . If I wasn’t there for a 36 hour trip I would’ve booked something else and got out of there . Went to go check out and the girl at the front desk was sleeping in the chair at 6am. Probably the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at

Post Pandemic Stay

Cleanliness was a disappointment; it was surface clean only except the toilet and bath tub. A white towel wipe revealed visible dirt. I have stayed here before and didn't have this issue.

No hot water, no alarm clock & no airport shuttle

As if the first two weren't bad enough, the website was misleading stating long term parking, which one would assume a shuttle. The evening front desk assured me they would call me a cab in advance. I was in the lobby 15 minutes prior to my cab and asked the morning clerk to confirm my cab. He called and then advised that a cab had not been ordered, but that one was on the way. Disappointing. Won't stay there again.

I meet a homeless person in the lobby on the night I check in. Found many construction workers and Amazon guy went into the pantry to get coffee in the morning. That’s why there are many construction truck parked in the parking lot and leave early in the morning. Probably they are living in Candlewood. My friend checked in and open the room and found a woman living on the same room. They have to change room twice at the late arrival at 12:00am. It was so ridiculous!! Another friend found death cockroach inside bathroom! I will never come back Candlewood in South bend . It is the worst place I stayed in my life! Don’t go!
