"We upgraded our room to a deluxe and the bedroom was huge, the bed was so comfortable. The room itself was clean and there was some nice features, it could do with a full length mirror . We didn't have breakfast as we thought £15pp was expensive when you can get it for less in town. We stayed on the 2nd floor and wish we had a top floor room the noise from other residents is deafening. Doors slamming and hearing other people's bathroom water running interrupted our sleep. "The Mercure is an older and I suspect much grander hotel at one time. It has a sense of opulence about it with wide staircases, high ceilings and stained glass windows, however there are also signs of aging, i.e. worn carpets, old windows. I think it adds to the charm. The breakfast staff were very attentive and pleasant. Breakfast was typical fare, with adequate choices available. My room was well appointed and the bed comfortable. My only complaint was noise made by the fire door slamming...

"Easy to find, parking easy, good location. We went out at 2am to watch the World Cup. Reception 24hours so easy to access at all hours. Would absolutely stay again."

"A nice independent hotel in a great central location. Opposite the bus station and Union Square shopping centre and very close to the rail station. Also within walking distance of many shops, restaurants/bars and attractions. The hotel is on a main road and if you are a light sleeper then this may mean it a bit too noisy for you. The room and hotel in general were very clean. The room was spacious as was the bathroom, both of which were very clean. The only criticism I had was the squeaky...

"I booked the room for my colleague, she said, "the hotel is dodgy, quite dirty and a hostel with interesting characters, smells of weed and generally no safety… the breakfast was really bad and I was the only one there… it seems like it’s not a hotel that is actually used for tourism/business." "Pretty horrific. Given room in alternative building which is open to anyone to walk in to. Went to room and someone was in the bed. Massive fright for both of us. Then back to reception where I was subjected to the third degree like it was my mistake before being issued a new room.
