Sea of Ice

Cold place but amazing

Mer De Glace.!! It once used to be a glacier over a hundred years ago.! Over time the glaciers have melted and has now become a valley and viewpoint for visitors coming from all over the world.! A very beautiful place that's been less noticed.

The "Mer de Glace", on the north side of Mont Blanc, is a glacier of 7 kilometres long and 200 metres deep. This makes it the largest glacier in France and the second longest glacier in the Alps. But the Mer de Glace is one of the places where the impact of climate change is very noticeable. In the 20th century the glacier lost 120 metres in thickness and now a river of rocks and boulders flows alongside the ice layer.
The French president Macron, who visited the site this week (February 2020), wants the Mer de Glace to be declared a protected nature area.
