Hotel looks very modern. The room is equipped with brand new furniture and all works well. The staff is so kind and helpful. Only issue I had is the noise done by other rooms upstairs. I have very positive to this hotel
The hotel at South was good. My room was in the back on the second level so I was insulated a lot from the clubs out front. Even with noise canceling headphones, I could still hear the music until 5 AM most nights. The staff was excellent.
The hotel is a very accessible location. You can walk to the arco s de lapa and escadaria selaron. Since it is a prime area, you will hear loud music at night. If you are a deep sleeper, then it is no problem. The room is clean and has the essentials you need.
The place was pretty and immaculate. They only give one key. Needed help getting in every time we left. The key never worked. You need the key to make the electricity work. That means no charging anything while you’re out. No cooling the room for your return. It is a short walk to the famous Stairs. There are no windows in the rooms.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Room comfort
Not for light sleepers or folks with back pain,
The hotel is located in a party area, so there’s lots of noise from neighboring bars, especially on Friday and Saturday until a lesser degree Sunday nights. The mattresses were very thin and uncomfortable. The area felt safe, but it is very isolated from the rest of Rio. The area lacks grocery stores and convenience stores, so it wasn’t helpful having a kitchenette when I had nowhere to buy groceries. The towels were very poor quality . The elevator broke down during my stay, so I had to relocate to a lower floor. They graciously accommodated that request. Unfortunately, when I got to the new room, there was no bidet, no hangers for the clothes, and no safe. I understand that elevators break down, but there’s no logical explanation for them to have inconsistencies in the amenities from one identical room to the next. The staff was great, but it would be nice if they had more English proficiency to accommodate tourism.
This is a safe, solid, budget friendly hotel in the heart of the Lapa Samba club area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was decent for the price and area and I felt safe overall. The area is in close proximity to the mosaic stairs and on Sunday there’s an amazing open air market that takes place close by. The area is lively and full of the authentic Brazilian cultural vibe you’re seeking. I had a great time at the Samba bar right across the street, joined a street party that had live musicians from the community just spontaneously breaking out instruments and everyone singing (had to be at least 200+ people). Lots of bars , convenience stores, restaurants, and dancing all around. If you’re familiar with city life the area won’t alarm you. The people were amazing, but keep your wits about you as in any city. There’s a nearby gym you can buy a day pass at. I even got to witness a spiritual ceremony near the arches. Do yourself a HUGE FAVOR stay away from the tourist trap restaurants and visit some of the real local spots— I highly recommend going to a nearby Peruvian restaurant called Panka— thank me later (this is also the same area the open market takes place)! <3
