2 night stay. Quiet, comfortable, and private. We stayed in the garage apartment which is seperate from the house. 10 minute walk to downtown restaurants, shops, and nightlife. I would highly recommend.
Cute guest house in a nice, central location in Reykjavik. This is an "annex" off the Main House about a five-ten minute walk from the main downtown area and old harbor. Quiet and cozy; nothing fancy; self-serve. Very "Air B&B" like. Internet and satellite TV provided, plus a few extras like microwave, stove, electric tea kettle, silverware and pots and pans...which was really nice. There are some nice little bonuses as well, like plastic wrap, spices, condiments, etc from past guests so you don't have to pick up all that stuff--although you should do an inventory before hitting the supermarket. As for the supermarkets, there are a few small ones downtown that are convenient, but a bit spendy. There is a Kronan and a Bonus by the museums at the old harbor (about 10 minute walk). We hit them and found the pricing much more in line with what we were used to in the US for most things where a lot of restaurants and mini markets were 50 to 100% more than what you'd expect. Yikes. So, hitting the market and cooking here was WAAAAY more economical than eating out (Pizza $20, Subway Footlong $16). Bear in mind that it is a quaint and quiet guest house and not a hotel. As long as you understand that you'll really appreciate it and the value that goes with it. Looking forward to coming back again.
Place was spacious, kitchen well equipped - for example condiments such as salt and oil for cooking etc we assume have been left by previous guests/provided - this was great. There was a sturdy griddle pan as well as the usual stuff such as coffee machine and microwave - the kettle however was a welcome addition for making tea! along with a table to sit at.
The annex has a modern bathroom with toilet and shower, which like every Icelandic place i've stayed has great pressure and hot water immediately, heating controls in each room were easy to adjust. There is a 2 person sofa, coffee table and TV with numerous channels, we found a few that were English language (with icelandic subtitles), as well as music channels. the bedroom has a very comfy bed, wardrobe, bedside tables etc. The pillows weren't quite high enough for us despite having 2 each as they were down pillows and that really was the only thing we can fault (although again this is a common occurrence for us) - this didn't stop us from having several great lie-ins. The location was great, we've stayed in this area before so it was good to be in the same area, so quick to walk the bars/restaurants as well as the local pool. Wifi was great, instructions and advice received from owners was great, we really enjoyed our stay. Would stay again.
After a friendly welcome, we quickly settled into the well equipped apartment & we appreciated the quiet location that was still only a short walk to town.
Check in was super easy even though we arrived late and never met the owner. The beds were comfy and the kitchen was adequately stocked with dishes. The location was in walking distance to the main downtown area. Overall a great stay.
During our trip to Iceland we found it can be very expensive. This place was an excellent price and also had a fridge and hot plate which meant we could save money on eating out (which was usually 90-130 cad per meal for two people). It was walking distance so pretty much everything. It's a two minute drive from two Grocery stores. Aswell as a 5 min walk to city centre. I could love to stay here again.
Great location within easy walking access to the old town. Plenty of shops, bars to walk around. Airport & Trip buses couldn't pick up from Tungata but it was a 5min walk down the hill to the Centrum Hotel. Just make sure you arrange directly with the transport company. All very helpful.
The second bedroom is very small and with a sloping roof above bed it is very easy to hit. I am 5'4" and still felt the need to drag bed away to get more headroom.
The living room is quite Spartan and could do with another couch or comfy chairs. It will only seat 2 comfortably.
Overall, a good base for a short visit to Iceland.
Big clean and private space - perfect for a family. Close to the heart of town, but still quiet with lots of parking in the street. Highly recommend.

Stop over in Iceland
Apartment was a 2 bedroom with plenty of room for 3 adults. Living room could have used more comfortable chairs. Was within walking distance to down town area.

Apartment in old Reyjavik house 4 blks from dwntwn
This unit is a downstairs apartment in an old house about 4 blks from Reykjavik city center. Great location! Price was right. Next to the Finish ambassador's residence. The apartment itself is old and is a little rough around the edges, but it is very spacious and has everything you need. Jon (pron Yone) is the property mgr and was very nice and accessible.
The apartment is 10 minutes walk from either the city center or the old harbor.
A quiet, comfortable stay with fine amenities.
Never saw the owner/staff, but then again we never needed to!
Would use this place again without question!
Very pleasant, well maintained apartment with great location near the center. Having kitchen facilities was a nice plus, but the kitchen was short on cooking utensils. Like everywhere else in Iceland, it is ferociously expensive for what it is, but there seems to be no escaping this.
We enjoyed our stay at 32 Tungata. The apartments are quite adequate for people who don't expect service 24/7 and can manage to take care of themselves. The kitchen has what you need for making breakfast and light meals. The location is good: close to center (west end of town), quiet, attractive neighborhood (many embassies). The landlord, who lives off-site, dealt with our e-mail request for some extra pillows very quickly. There are food stores and restaurants within 5 mins walk. Museums and other attractions are 5-15 mins away walking. Iceland is a well-functioning modern society (wi-fi everywhere, credit cards seem to be the preferred mode of payment, except for city buses), but it is not called Iceland for nothing. Bring warm clothing (layers), wet-weather gear and good walking shoes. The hot water (and the heating) for all of Iceland comes from underground hot springs and has a slightly mineral smell - people recommend not drinking from the hot water tap, but the cold water is pure and tasty.
Reykjavik is expensive. There is no getting around it. It is also super interesting and beautiful, as is Iceland overall. But hotel prices can make you blanch, and that's before you get to the cost of everything else. We were delighted to find 32, Tungata, which is essentially a two-bedroom apartment in the lower level of a house on "Embassy Row". It is easy walking distance to everything in the centre of Reykjavik, and is basic, clean and comfortable. It is an older home, so don't expect brand new tiling and fancy paint colours. But if you want comfy beds with cushy duvets and a serviceable eat-in kitchen for a family of four, you can't go wrong. The hosts are very helpful, and every question was answered with speed and due diligence. As the author of a book on traveling with babies and toddlers, I've learned how to spot winners, and this was one for us.
