Quarteira is a seaside city, characterised by high-rise buildings with beautiful views overlooking the beach. It has been a popular destination with visitors since the 1960’s.

This old fishing village is now a cosmopolitan tourist city, and is very popular, especially amongst Portuguese tourists. The beach and restaurants are the main attractions, along with the best-known marina in the Algarve, Marina de Vilamoura.

Boardwalk of Quarteira

Quarteira has a beautiful palm-lined, beachside promenade, Avenida Infante de Sagres, also known as the ‘Marginal’. This is a lovely place to go for a walk, with plenty of patios overlooking the seafront.

Beach of Quarteira

This is a large blue flag beach with plenty of water activities to keep the revellers entertained. It has restaurants and bars, as well as a deck chairs for rent, and even a health centre. It’s also an ideal beach for people with reduced mobility and families with children, since the beach is very close to the city.

Roman Ruins, Cerro da Vila

In Quarteira you can also visit the ruins of what used to be an old Roman fishing village. The ruins are located in a semi-rural area and are made up of two residences, baths, a necropolis, dams and fish salting stations.

Casino

The Casino in Quarteira, or Vilamoura, as it is known, is a popular tourist attraction that offers a variety of shows, along with a games room, dance rooms, musicals, theatre and comedy – on top of the usual slot machines. Fancy a flutter? Then this is the place to go.

Accomodation

Quarteira is an ideal holiday destination for families with all sorts of accommodation on offer, from hotels to apartments, all with easy access to the beach and restaurants. Most places are also close to the excellent Aquashow Park, a waterpark in that makes for an exceptionally fun family day out.

Golf

The Algarve is known the world over for its golf, and Quarteira is no exception. There’s a great selection of golf courses, all offering amazing views. They all offer challenging courses perfect for perfecting your game, such as Oceânico and Vale do Lobo.

Food

When it comes to food, Quarteira is king, offering great fresh seafood and fish. Some of the best-known regional culinary delights include octopus rice, tuna with onions and stuffed squids. You’ll find many restaurants around the beach area, offering both tasty grub and great views.

Very clean and lots of little shops. All the restaurants were mainly Italian and seafood, went to Vilamoura for more variety but Quarteira was a good base
