Parangtritis Beach

Pantai Parangkusumo is an hour or two outside of Jogja. Indonesian's don't like getting tan, so the local beaches tend to be deserted. Awesome! This one is clean with great views. They have sandboarding a few blocks away!

Sandboarding near Jogja! Pantai Parangkusumo has big hills, perfect for sliding down. A woman next door rents the boards and you have the dunes to yourself for however long you want. For two boards, a morning, and a few drinks we paid around $12 usd. We were the only people there. Be warned - go early morning or sunset, because the sand gets scorching hot and is miserable on your feet. Fun -- but also a major workout because you have to re-climb up the dune every time you slide down, and they're steep.
