An amazing leisure place to stay in Mysore!
Stay was amazing at the Royal Orchid Hotel!!!Great location as it overlooks the iconic Vrindavan Garden;you get down the hotel and you are into the garden; the garden lights up in the night and the view from the rooms balcony is superb!! Nice big rooms with antique furniture, courteous staff. There is no lift so one has to climb a flight of stairs but otherwise an ideal place for a short getaway.

The location is amazing and the staff / food is really great. The only disappointment was that our room was somewhere in the corner which is not have any sort of view. My advice to the hotel is to perhaps not give this room as a king room. Apart from that, the experience has been great.

Watch Brindavan Gardens from your Balcony
The hotel scores 100% for its location. For people visiting the garden from Mysuru or Bangalore there are several constraints for visiting the garden, which all can be avoided if you choose to stay at the Royal Orchid at Brindavan Garden. We could go around the garden on a Sunday morning almost exclusively for us, or view the dancing fountains till the end of the show, without bothering about the transport or dinner. On top of it the hotel has royal ambience, fine cuisine and top notch service.

Heritage building overlooking Brindavan Gardens
Beautiful location set high up overlooking the well maintained gardens. Nice restaurant, bar on veranda with views. Good breakfast with continental and south Indian food. All rooms have verandah overlooking the gardens.

Nice hotel in the garden itself having 24hr garden

Inside Brindavan garden with most beautiful view.
Very courteous front office staff especially Miss Priyanka helping us with info on nearby scenic spots and temples. The breakfast spread was good with tasty food. Overall experience was very good. Planning to visit again with all family members and pet. Keep up the high standard of Royal Orchids.

Not as expected and shown in Expedia pics
Room size is not the same as shown on Expedia. Paid $1000 to get the same. Condition of offered room bathroom was terrible. Was disappointing. Complimentary breakfast was excellent. Staff service was below average. I like the heritage of building but was lacking regular maitenance.

PRINT RESERVATION PAPERS TO SATISFY SECURITY CHAPS
Whilst the hotel is right at the Krishnarajasagar dam with great view, very disappointing is the security chaps at the gate who are preventing guests from even entering the hotel. They insist on seeing your reservation, check vehicles, question you etc. so if one is to go to this hotel for a dinner with guests, insults are assured at the gate. The GM apparently tried to calm us by offering an insulting 15% on the dinner!! which I refused to accept. Mattress is so spongy that one will wake up with a terrible back ache. Looks like they have never heard of proper hotel mattresses. Security issue was dismissed as "due to threats at the dam"which looks like the usual excuse when I looked at Tripadvisor.

Enjoyed the experience, with beautiful garden view, and leisure activities like cycling...My 1 yr old kid enjoyed the swing, toys, and watching the ducks...

Grand old charm.
Excellent location right in Brindavin garden. Old style charm but building showing its age. Doors and fixtures fit poorly. Plumbing needs updating. No a/c. Staff very accommodating and attentive to all our needs. Authentic Indian experience

Extremely poor service
I checked in for a night's stay at Royal Orchid Bridhavan om February 3rd 2017. I was accompanied by my wife and 10 year old son. I was in room number 301(left extreme, 3rd floor). I check in around 10:00p. The first trouble started when 5 people came to 302 terrace and started making a lot of notice. From 301 terrace I could see these 5 folks were having booze and were not in control. I waited for 2 hours and since the commotion did not stop till 12:30a, I called the reception and complained. The response was that these folks in 302 were having dinner and if I want the hotel will change my room (around 1:00a in the morning !!). Next day, when I went to take shower, hot water was not coming. The electrician came and confirmed that the heater coil had been kaput for quite sometime. Again the reception guy said he can change my room but refused to admit that they had rented out the room without even checking if there was running hot water !! I have stayed at Royal Orchid Brindhavan quite a few times - actually, I have a Royal Orchid Gold membership !! My observation is this, place (Royal Orchid Brindhavan) is going down in standard. If you want to stay in Mysore or even near the dam, there are plenty of hotels with a much better service. Stay away from this place - that would be my advise.

Great location overlooking brindavan gardens
We stayed there for night during the weekday. The hosts at the restaurant (Couple of interns) were awesome!! They made sure we got the best service always. Food at the restaurant is very tasty. Elephant bar is good for drinks and snacks which overlooks the bridavan gardens. Garden lighting from the hotel is best view one can get. Will be coming back to stay again!!

The location is perfect if you want to visit the Brindavan Gardens. The hotel staff is very friendly and try to accommodate your needs well. The rooms could've been cleaner - the sheets and the bath tub especially.

Overlooking 60 acres of gardens
I spent 2 night here as a base to tour Mysore. I had no idea this would be the most memorable hotel. It was not busy as it was off season. The building is concerted from a guest palace so the rooms are smaller than a new hotel but still well appointed and comfortable.

Royal Orchid Hotel, Brindavan Gardens, Mysore
A nice welcome to the Royal Orchid Hotel, Brindavan Gardens. Check-in done smoothly and taken to our nice room. This is an old and elegant building, now a hotel; there is no lift so if you have a problem climbing stairs, ask for the ground floor rooms. All the 24 rooms face the Brindavan gardens, so a very nice outlook. From 6.30pm till 8pm (in the busy season) the fountains are lit by coloured lights and it is indeed a popular place for hundreds of people walking the approx. 1.5km one way of the garden. Staff were pleasant and the food varied and tasty.

a fascinating heritage hotel from where you can at leisure stroll in the gardens early morning. However the buffet dinner was not to our taste and we were not satisfied with what we got through room service after a long wait

Royal orchid at Brindavan Gardens
We stayed at Royal Orchid at Brindavan since we wanted to spend a day at Brindavan gardens. The first I noticed was the Majestic look of the hotel. The interiors was adorned with contemporary look that befitted a modern day hotel. The balcony opened to the beautiful view of Brindavan Gardens. The staff were courteous yet non intrusive. Overall we loved the day we spent at the hotel

Fantastic location, nice rooms and furnishings. Bed was too soft, Internet connection was unavailable that day. Fantastic food at the hotel restaurant. The biggest issue, checking in late Saturday evening, was that sound and light show had just finished and we had to wait for more than an hour for the parking lot to empty out before we could get in the hotel complex.

Great place to stay
Overall was great. This is my third visit to the property and was not disappointed. The view is fantastic and it is very quiet and peaceful at night, especially after the tourists go away. Only real disappointment was that the KR Sagar dam was closed to public due to "security reasons". And the approach roads are horrible.

No service orientation at all!
We booked 3 rooms for a one night getaway with friends. But the rooms were not even on the same floor thereby marring the fun completely! They do not allow 3 rooms to be booked under one name. So we are forced to book 3 rooms with 3 names. But they were under the same booking #. They didn't bother to check that at all. And there was no attempt to accommodate.

Disgusting, to be avoided.
What was once a fancy 5-star faux colonial-era hotel is now well past its prime. We experienced stinking towels, a gym so moldy it was impossible to enter, and a pool filled with detritus. The online presence of the Royal Orchid Brindavan gives the impression that it's in the league of Taj hotels such as the Gateway (Chikmagalur) or the Vivanta (Coorg), but this could not be further from the truth. To make matters worse, after we reported a broken safe, non-working fridge and moldy carpet, the desk man "Mr. Hari" repeatedly lied to us that the hotel was completely booked, and that he could not change our room. Other staff informed us that the hotel was almost empty. AVOID this place like the plague.

Queen Room & King Bed (confusing) Disappointed by Miscommunication between Expedia & Hotel on organizing Bokay & Cake on my Anniversary (They tried compensating by inviting for Dinner) Could have been handled by better communication. Great Location
Hotel as such is located at the best possible location. Service & courtesy shown by the staff is also very good. But bathroom fittings and working of geyser etc need a lot to be desired. While we were promised King Beds while booking we found rooms with Queen Beds. Since we reached very late, we did not complain and left early morning the next day.

Overall, it was a good stay. If you are planning to spend a lot of time exploring the city then this is not the best option since the hotel is located outside Mysore city. We had booked this place for the Brindavan garden view only and it was great..

Beautiful & Historic(Have Reasonable Expectations)
There reason to stay here is THE VIEW. However, one in our party (of three ladies) was shown to a back room with no view -- odd, since we were all paying the same rate. She insisted & was given a room with a view. Not a great start, but everything else was good. The rooms have comfortable mattresses & linens and large balconies. The furniture was nice, colonial-style dark wood with white linens, rattan chairs and ottomans, simple desk. The ceilings are mile high with fan and AC. Antique looking cut glass mirrors dress up the room without being over the top. I loved the black & white photos of the dam construction sprinkled throughout the common spaces. The lobby, lobby patio, dinning room and bar are all tastefully appointed and comfortable. A photo taken of them today would not look out of place in 1918. The bathrooms are smallish; those above the 1st floor only have showers, no bath. The shower has no stall, just a shower curtain that separates the shower from the toilet and sink. Realistic expectations are key to enjoying this property: it is simply not a 5 star modern hotel, but rather a comfortable piece of living, functional history. There is no elevator, some rooms have stairs to the bathroom, there are certain signs of age. However, it seems very much like it would have been 100 years ago (with better mattresses, AC and TV!), so if you are looking for an "authentic" experience and can appreciate the quirks of a historic property you'll have a pleasant stay.

Excellent rooms
The hotel was luxurious, the rooms extremely comfortable and the service great! We did have some trouble with our booking initially, but that was sorted out while we had lunch and the rest of the stay proceeded smoothly. Strongly recommended for a quick and relaxing getaway.

There is nothing Royal about this orchid
The hotel is too far from the city. The Brindavan gardens are a let down. Room service/ housekeeping is too slow to respond. The swimming pool is ugly. The worst part about this hotel is that the FRONT OFFICE never answers the phone so forget trying to talk to them before you reach the hotel. The front office takes its name too seriously and you can talk to them only if you are in front of them. The wi-fi is priced exorbitantly.

only advantage is the location.
location is good. but rooms are not so fresh. food options are limited. they blame the garden for the insects in the rooms.

We went during a time when there was a water dispute. Since the only way to get to this property is via the dam, the only road to the hotel was closed. The police were left our information to let us through since we had a reservation but somehow they did not have our information. It took about 30 mins to get to the hotel once we could see it. This was very frustrating but the hotel was nice once we arrived. The other downside is there is nowhere close by for the drivers to stay. Our driver had to go a few km away to find an place to stay. Breakfast was acceptable. The rooms were huge.
