Modern Pier at Otter Ferry This pier is maintained by the Otter Ferry Pier Association. The association offers free use of the pier and moorings for visiting boats, but donations are appreciated. There is a collection box below the notice. The original jetty formerly used by the ferry is a short distance away to the north.
Old Jetty at Otter Ferry Between the 18th century and as recently as 1948 a ferry operated across Loch Fyne between here and West Otter Ferry. The jetty and quay were built by James Campbell in the late 1700s. The name Otter derives from the Gaelic oitir - meaning a sandbank or spit of land. Near this point an Otir extends a mile out into the loch.
