"Hotel was very nice and staff were friendly. Beds were quite comfortable and the design of the hotel was nice. The blackout blinds were helpful! Easy enough to get a bus into San Sebastián. Breakfast was tasty. Cleaners in our room did a great job. A few things would have made it better/really good- we had a young baby and they could have offered to help us with washing bottles etc. They cleared breakfast away either before, or exactly at the time they said it would finish (normally you get a bit of leeway in other hotels if you turn up 5-10 mins before the end!). The sink in our room was also not securely attached to the wall and they provided tea bags but no kettle. In summary- generally good but I would have hoped for a little bit more given the cost of the room. "

"Love these hotels. Modern Bright Cheery. Super professional staff. A feeling of community not a hotel. People of all ages mixing together. Love the rooms. Could not even tell there was a busy street and a highway of sorts right outside our window. Never heard a sound. Food in the restaurant was reasonably priced and very good. "Hotel Akelarre We chose this hotel for one of the most important moments of our lives, as I proposed to my partner during our stay, so the bar was incredibly high. After researching many of the best 5-star hotels across Europe, Hotel Akelarre stood out immediately and exceeded every expectation. The setting is truly special. Located in the peaceful Igueldo countryside, you feel completely removed from the world, yet you are only a short drive from San Sebastián. Waking up to uninterrupted views over the Bay of Biscay, with nothing but birds and distant cowbells, is something we will never forget. The design is exceptional, with a beautiful modern and minimal style that blends seamlessly into the landscape. Every detail feels intentional, from the materials and lighting to the layout of the spaces. Our room was spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable, with a huge bed, luxurious bathroom, and breathtaking views. Breakfast was the best we have ever had, with high-quality local ingredients and excellent made-to-order dishes. The spa was also a highlight, offering a calm and relaxing space with incredible views. Service was warm, professional, and attentive throughout. A special thank you to Mikel for helping coordinate such an important moment for us. If I had one small note, it would be that cocktail options were slightly limited compared to the rest of the experience. Overall, this is a truly special hotel and perfect for a memorable stay or special occasion."

"The staff were friendly and open, assisting us when needed. The room and common spaces were very warm and comfortable, and the position of the hotel in the forest is appealing and also an easy bus ride into town. The spa is good, not huge. "

"Check-in was not good… my sons arrived at the hotel and for some reason they forgot their passport, but they had other Id documents with them and photo of their passport. The gentleman that was making the check-in was very nice with them and really help with the situation… but there was a lady there, with another guest overhearing the conversation and she started to make problems… arguing that photograph of the passport was not acceptable and that the reservation should be cancel and threatened even to call the police. People like her are the ones that ruin the great experience of booking at a new hotel. Not sure if we are booking again… "
