"Weren’t told we’d be in the annex when booking. Luckily we didn’t have any accessibility difficulties (or a couple of stone heavier) or the narrow staircase would have been difficult to navigate. The room was clean enough, bathroom adequate, shower awful but the biggest annoyance was the really loudly squeaking floorboards. They were bad for us but must have been worse for those downstairs! I took to traversing the two single beds (not KING size like advertised) to avoid some of the squeaks. The full Scottish breakfast (I’m told) was very good and we couldn’t fault the staff at all. Whilst appreciating that the property is older than some and therefore has “character” when this forces you to play “floor is lava” to get to the bathroom it impacts on your stay. Ps The hotel is in Portpatrick NOT Stranraer Portpatrick is lovely’ Stranraer not so much Port Pantry was the best meal we had 👍 "

"I have honestly never stayed in such a shabby hotel. The standards were way below average. Dirty, old, smelly and so outdated I doubt it's been decorated since the mid 80s. The only saving grace was the livelychap from Hungary on reception who did his best to help. I cant say the same for the receptionist who couldnt care less when I checked out and proceeeded to go for a smoke right outside the door! Portpatrick is a lovely place but unfortunately the windows in this hotel were so filthy I couldn't take in the view. Avoid this place! I wish I had..."

"Excellent in every respect. Superbly friendly with a responsive and caring host. Room first class with comfortable beds & ample towels. Lovely setting. High class food. Only minor issue is breakfast is only served after 08.30 - not ideal if you want an early start."

"We couldn’t get into the property because it has been closed to the public for some time, Expedia obviously didn’t know about that because they kept sending us emails regarding our stay and when we turned up There after a late night ferry crossing we were stuck in the back of beyond and having tried to book other hotels in Dumfries with no joy we won’t be using Expedia again ever!! "
