Hotel Xauen
8/10 Good
"Great location, close to the cathedral and less than 10 minutes from the bus station. Nearby bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Hotel public areas are very nice but our room was very tired, although very clean and spacious with a comfy bed. Breakfast ok if you just like versions of bread, nothing much else on offer. "
"The hotel is dated especially with the sound proofing. Very pure insulation when you hear every word the neighbouring room guest. Since the flooring is tiled, whenever the next room guest or upstairs, the sound of the chair dragging on the floor is annoying and happens often. When we open the window a little for fresh air, the traffic sound is non stop and the garbage truck wakes us up in the early hours.
The bath faucet is leaking so the water sprays out of the bath tub. The tiles are old and the caulking is falling off and it makes the bath look not clean. The fridge took 24 hours to get cold. The location is good and it looks like a historical set up but needs sprucing up."
"This was by far one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The staff asked for credit card numbed over WhatsApp before I even arrived. Nobody told me there wouldn’t be hot water until I found out myself and asking, the room was disgusting, smelled of smoke, trash and standing water in the shower from the previous guest. Somehow the room was blistering hot despite it being December and the AC didn’t work. "
"I picked the Pension because it was close to the town center. Check in was ok—I was there at 1230 and check in wasn’t until 1430. Fair dues, the owner gave me my room right away. The premises and the room seemed tired, worn out, and a bit grubby. Light in the passageway was an issue at night. In the bathroom there was a sulphorous odor. If you kept the bathroom door closed it didn’t get into the bedroom. The shower is small, and it was a bit like having a fight with yourself in a telephone booth. Pretty standard for Europe though. There was a thin sheet between me and the mattress which didn’t fill me with confidence. The biggest issue of all though was the noise. There was some sort of party going till 0400! Very loud. And whoever was next to my room could be heard clanging, bumping, thumping and talking. As I wrote earlier—I chose location over every else. So, I have only myself to blame. Finally, it seemed very expensive for what I got. But it is right in the middle of town. "
"We were moved from original booking saying there were better facilities there were none! Chose the original for the fact there was a restaurant and a bar and after a long journey we would not need to go out . we were also charged 4 euros more than your original charge . Very disappointed ended up going to bed with no dinner."
