I did enjoy the place and the room was nice but my biggest issue is that the website states breakfast is included but apparently they stopped serving breakfast 3 months ago and there was no communication letting guests know that. That was one reason I booked this reservation and for them not to inform guests at check in or have signage stating do is just unprofessional.

Zero service from front desk, with the exception of Wade fixing the confusion. Bed never made, no fresh towels, no trash taken out. Nothing. Stayed 6 days and no room servicing at all. No breakfast. Closest option to JLG tarining, but I would make the drive next time and stay elsewhere.

A little peculiar and old but very nice and special place. Feels like you stepped back in time, but I kind of think that’s the point. Our room was like an entire apartment and really exceeded our expectations. The pictures were really limited and did not do it justice. We had a lovely time though, and the food was actually really good at the restaurant.

There is no longer a breakfast offered. Update your online info as we would not have stayed there. Street traffic is very noisy n you are sleeping a few feet away. Restaurant was empty n did not have available food that was on menu. Not much in the town anymore just a noisy traffic town now. Beautiful history n well preserved but disappointing. If your town library is best thing going in the town, that says alot about the town.

A stay at the James Buchanan Hotel feels like stepping into a carefully preserved slice of American history, yet never at the expense of comfort. The rooms carry an unmistakably historically accurate ambiance—period‑inspired décor, warm wood finishes, and subtle architectural details that make you feel connected to the era. But what really elevates the experience is how seamlessly those classic touches blend with modern comforts. Thoughtful updates, cozy furnishings, and contemporary amenities make the space feel less like a museum and more like a place you can genuinely settle into and call home. Beyond the rooms, the hotel’s attached pub and restaurant are standout features. The menu leans heavily on locally sourced ingredients, and you can taste the difference in every dish—from hearty classics to more inventive seasonal plates. It’s the kind of spot where both travelers and locals linger a little longer than planned. And then there’s the quaint bier garten, a charming outdoor nook perfect for unwinding. Whether you’re sipping a cold pint under string lights or enjoying small bites with friends, it adds a relaxed, communal vibe that rounds out the entire experience. If you’re looking for a stay that honors history while still feeling warm, welcoming, and deliciously modern, the James Buchanan Hotel delivers.

The room was clean and the restaurant was great. The breakfast was terrible - no silverware to be found. 1 bagel and packaged pastries. No butter or cream cheese available. No plates to eat on. Front desk is unmanned most of the time, so no help. Toilet in room clogged and no way to fix. The room was clean and the facilities were fine. Location is great.

The property has some nice aspects, like the historical feel and redone bathrooms, and the hotel is easy access to Mercersburg Academy if you’re visiting a student, but they have a clear service problem—the desk was never attended, the floors in my room were dirty and the restaurant took forever to get our very simple sandwich meal.

Has potential

This is a very neat hotel, but not comfortable to just hang out in the room. The bathroom was beautiful and super modern, which didn’t fit the era of the hotel, but I loved it. I would recommend putting up curtains in addition to the blinds because the hall light beamed in all night. There also is nowhere to get ice or water, so bring your own.

Sadly dissatisfied.

Unfortunately the service during Thanksgiving was non existence. The TV didn’t work, the sheets were laundered but visibly stained and there was no room service even when requested each day of my four night stay. A call to the number on the “How was your stay” survey for the hotel was answered with concern and that he would check it out in person and call me back. NO return call since my call in December. This is now February and I am left with calling Wyndham directly with this sad report.

ชื่นชอบ: ความสะอาด
I called twice in the week leading up to our visit to confirm the sleeping arrangements for my son. I was told there was a full sized sofa and also a roll away bed. When we arrived the twin bed had a pad less than an inch thick, no extra sheets for it. I was able to add another mattress from a roll away after asking but the sofa was no where near big enough for anyone to sleep on. The temperature controls in the rooms are very confusing, not sure what actually worked the heat and what didn’t. The wall unit, at least in the bedroom area didn’t work at all, even when just trying to turn it on fan. The road noise is extremely loud and there could be curtains or blinds added to keep out light and some of the noise. The hot water was almost nonexistent in the shower and would change temperatures from hot to cold to scalding while trying to take a shower. We were als told twice that the room contained a microwave and planned and bought microwaveable food for our trip and then when we got to the room, noticed there was no microwave. It seems like the gentleman running the front desk could have bee more attentive to the questions I was asking, could have had sheets, roll away bed with decent mattress already in the room since I had called in advance and inquired and made a point to him that we would have a kid with us that would need the second bed. The housekeeping was attentive and provided anything we asked for. The bed was comfortable and the layout of the room was nice.
