The photos of the property on Expedia were of the main building but we were given a room in the old 1 story building next door with an outside entrance. Upon entering the bathroom there was an unfolded towel thrown over the shower rod over the bath tub. The only soap was a TINY little bar (approximately 1" X 2") broken into pieces within it's packaging. There was a large fly buzzing around the bathroom. There was a small dead bug on top of our bed but didn't see any under the covers. We ate dinner in the main building where the food & service was very good.

This property is historical and is under a total renovation. The bathrooms are small but the beds are very comfortable. There is a restaurant right in the motel. If you enjoy history it is worth a stop. It is a serve yourself breakfast in the motel lobby and minimal but that is the theme of the property. The staff is awesome and accommodating to their guests. It was a really fun experience.

Kim and Kristen were exceptionally hospitable and looked after me during my stay. They were also both very keen to share the history of the hotel and gave me a guided tour of the newly renovated rooms in the main hotel. If staying here I would recommend staying in the main hotel. My room attached ti the hotel was disappointing since it was well overdue restoration and not up to the standard of the main rooms. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here in this unique time capsule of old America and would recommend.

Charming bit of history

My stay was great. There was contactless check in. Before my arrival, I was texted my room number and the code to open the door. It was a hot summer day when I arrived. I open the door to find the air conditioner in the room had been turned on prior to my arrival and the room was refreshingly cool. The restaurant in the hotel is quaint. Dinner was amazing!

Staying at the Virginia Hotel in Wyoming was an unforgettable experience that truly captured the essence of the early 20th century. Built in 1911, this historic gem offers an authentic glimpse into a bygone era, with its beautifully preserved period décor. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the hotel’s charm and character. The antique furnishings, vintage artifacts, and historic photographs created an atmosphere that felt like a living museum of local history. Our room continued this delightful theme, with period-appropriate furniture and thoughtful details that made it feel like we were living in a piece of history. The staff was warm and welcoming, eager to share stories about the hotel’s fascinating past. Their enthusiasm and knowledge added a deeply personal touch to our stay, making it even more memorable. The breakfast was another highlight—simple, delicious, and reminiscent of a homemade meal. It was the perfect way to start the day and added to the hotel’s inviting, homey atmosphere. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply seeking a unique and charming place to stay, the Virginia Hotel is a true treasure. Its blend of historical authenticity and Western charm makes it a must-visit destination in Wyoming.

An absolutely unique stay, a piece of history frozen in time in the middle of nowhere. For sitting still and appreciating the beauty of the moment past. We stayed in the Owen Suite, which was filled with beautiful historical pieces. Across from the hotel is a small, but a very interesting museum very much worth visiting (and you can buy there a novel, which hotel is named for, The Virginian by Owen Wister). The guys, Jay and Jacoby, who are taking care of the hotel and renovating it are beyond cool and are very helpful! Jay, in addition, is a mean cook and the breakfast he made was fantastic! This place was a highlight during our road trip from Montana to Colorado!

No AC in room so you have to leave the windows open all night and you are basically sleeping next door to a busy railway. Trains come through every hour or so blowing their horn and roaring through town all night. When we arrived about 2:00 pm we asked in the hotel about getting something to eat and got a very surly response that the kitchen didn't open till 6:00. Never again.

Made a special arrangement with hotel staff for late check-in. Once arriving, no one answered the phone and no one came to help with check-in. Was forced to sleep in car. This is ridiculous because special efforts were made to arrange late check-in. What a total failure. I am requesting a refund - and still haven't been able to get a hold of anyone.

When we arrived, it looked like a scary place, the room area down the street looked abandoned and not like the pictures. We did NOT feel safe, We kept driving and chalked up as a lesson learned not to trust pictures. We gave up our paid night stay rather than take a chance on being assaulted or robbed. We felt unsafe.

We rented a room for Friday and Saturday night for an elk hunt. Friday was fine. Saturday my son got his truck stuck in the nearby mountains. After 5 hours of digging with the help of the Sheriffs Department, he was finally on the way back to the hotel around midnight. When he got there, the hotel was locked and he had to sleep in the truck in the parking lot. Checkout time was supposed to be 10am, but nobody was at the hotel to unlock the front door. He had to wait until after noon to get his belongings from the room and go home. Terrible experience and I plan to try and get my money back since the room was not available to stay in.

The Virginian in Medicine Bow Wyoming is first of far greater than what one would expect for such a small Wyoming town that is basically off the beaten path. That being said, the website is somewhat misleading... First off, the pictures and descriptions are basically that of the old and rustic 3 story building - I was in town to see Union Pacific's Big Boy steam engine which stops right across the highway from the 3 story Virginian... This is where I thought I'd be. What they don't say on there website or when booking is they have other rooms a couple of blocks away from the main facility which is where they put me - this was disappointing... Next, the description states "patio" on my reservation - well, if you very loosely depict a 4 foot wide stretch of sidewalk outside the door as a patio, then I suppose. To me, this is not a patio nor an enjoyable spot to sit. The room, described as deluxe, is quite plain, no frills (does have a fridge, microwave, and bathroom amenities). No coffee, no phone to call office, no string on window blinds to raise, dirty fridge with old sauce drippings, desk has remnants of some kids toys and the rack shelf for the refrigerator and 2nd drawer has a nasty old bag of Cheetos that I'm not even willing to touch...been there awhile. Beyond that, room met the needs for an overnight stay which is the true purpose. As such, given the pros and cons, it was worth the price paid (mid seventies).

The room was small and ok. The AC unit in the window wasn't sealed well and the heater did not work so it was very cold the first night. We had to purchase a space heater. The faucet in the bathroom kept clogging and basically stayed full during the three day visit. We could hear everyone coming and going and the train was directly across the street and ran frequently. The mini fridge was loud too. We only got a couple towels and had to wait until noon each day to get anything bc no one was really there. Lastly, someone came in our room while we were in the bed and it scared the hell out of us. The patio area was cute and the actual hotel was eclectic but otherwise probably would not go back.

Booked the Owen Wister suite through Expedia. They took my reservation and my money. Then got notified afterwards the suite and the whole historic hotel was unavailable. Since I booked through Expedia I could not get money back. Got stuck in a tny room with tiny beds in an old back they put rooms in. Awful experience. After almost thirty years I will never go to the Virginian again and I will never purchase anything through Expedia again.
