friendly staff. no language barrier for English.
monkeys in the morning
This hotel is just south of the main areas of Mahahual which makes it quieter than being in town when cruise ships are in port. The host was very friendly, beds were very comfortable, shower was hot, potable water provided on site. We would stay here again if we are in Mahahual again.
Fabulous service. Delicious restaurant on property. Beautiful property! Nice location away from hustle and bustle. Be prepared for some aggressive mosquitos.
The breakfeast is very poor. Only sliced bread and butter. We suggest some jam and peanut butter. the coffee is terrible. We have to go out for a good coffee. The Room was perfect and the private beach was a must.
Very nice, clean hotel at the quiet end of Mahajual. No cruise ship tourists so the beach across the street was pretty much private. The breakfast was very good and the food for snacks and dinner was excellent (surprisingly excellent pizza - also try the eggplant). The staff was friendly and attentive but sometimes there might not be anyone at the desk who speaks English. They will use Google Translate to navigate through any issues, however. They were all very accommodating.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
We found a huge cockroach in one of the bedroom, the outside bulb was not working, the second day the bulb inside was not working eather, the area beach was very careless
Luna de Plata is the last hotel on the Malecon (the walkway by the sea in Mahuhalal), and. that is what makes it special. It is the last stronghold on the Maya Coast to withstand tourist invasion. II is low-key as if sucmbing to the sea breezes and the quiet. Both the hotel and the area feel like the world of yesterday. Low-key, personal, and not slick. You can walk to the town's center to enjoy the various restaurants, but you always retreat to this peaceful oasis, leaving the cruise ships that frequent the town in the distance. Dario, the Italian-born owner, and his staff are very sweet , dedicated individuals who are attentive and available but not sleek and overbearing as in most of the resort hotels. Do not miss the bar and restaurant of the neighboring Luna Beach Club only few steps away where you can nurse a margarita or mojito at sunset on the beach, all the way to moonrise, taking in the peacefulness of this part of Mahahuhal. But hurry up before the Cruise ships wil devour this last piece of havean
Never been before at Mahahual, it is far away distant driving but worth it, its a pleasant, quite, relaxing and peaceful place. Morning sun raisin is amazing.
At hotel, staff are very concentrate in their tasks, it is administrated by local and italians that gave you a mix of well cultural work to provide a very organized place, you can stay calm and have nice walks along beach.
Food its amazing (italian-mexican caribbean), rooms very comfortable, instalations all what you need n staff very friendly, I have a great welcome at my arriving, I will come back soon!!
Nice hotel across from beach. Did not spend any time on beach at hotel as chair cushions were all damp.
Room great however sure miss having a small fridge in room to keep beer cold. Ssecond small bed rickidy and needs to be replaced. Staff very nice.
We booked 7 nights at Hotel Luna de Plata but stayed 6 due to transportation changes. Sadly, the property feels abandoned. The lobby furniture is worn out, paint is peeling from the walls, and the front area is broken, unshaded, and even gets wet when it rains. The restaurant has been closed for over a year (something Expedia has not updated), so there is no food service and not even drinking water for guests—we had to buy our own. At check-in, instead of a warm welcome, we were given a lecture about hotel rules, which left a poor first impression.
During our stay, only three people were working with guests, including an excellent housekeeper who did her best, but overall the staff felt insufficient for the size of the property.
On the positive side, the room was spacious, with a nice balcony and view. The quiet location at the far end of the Mahahual strip was convenient for relaxation, away from vendors and crowds. We adapted by buying a cooler for drinks, and nearby Bar Luna (great seafood) plus a corner store were very helpful.
Still, the first impression was disappointing compared to the online photos (clearly from the hotel’s better days), and the nightly rate was overpriced for the condition of the property. Considering everything, both the hotel and Expedia should compensate guests for misleading information.
Was not impressed they charged extra if you are 2 in the room especially when nothing was included with the room. It had a queen bed so 1 or 2 people makes no difference at all for them. Then i used the beach chairs at night to be told they wanted the seat covers since they were closing. Asked if I could return my cover once I was done but instead got declined. In the end they left me have the cover. Then service to beach not existent. All in all customer service is extremely bad. As for room it was great plus hotel is also a gem. If you plan to just sleep without expecting service it's the perfect place but as soon as you require any service. It become an uphill battle. This is why 2 stars is at max.
The patio door extremely hard to open. No coffee or tea provided in the room. Have to pay $10 extra fee for the cup of coffee
