We loved the private balcony, the jetted tub, fireplace, and kitchenette in the room that we rented. The bed was comfortable, lots of comfy pillows, and overall it was clean. Loved the view from the balcony. It is a little walk to town and to the river, especially on the way back, up the hill, lol, but worth it. Every staff member that we encountered was very friendly and helpful, from check-in to breakfast, and housekeeping. We’ve stayed here a few times and will stay again!

Enjoyed my stay here. Good location easy to get to main Madison district and good view of the river. Exterior looks dated but don’t let that put you off as the rooms are renewed and have high quality towels and bedding. Helpful staff and I really enjoyed the comfortable recliner in the room after riding a motorcycle through the area all day. I would definitely stay here again.

This historic hotel has beautiful rooms and a great view of the Ohio and downtown Historic Madison. I highly recommend it if you are visiting Madison. Make sure you request a river-side room.

The staff are some of the friendliest I have ever met in all my travels. The hotel is adequately maintained for being an older hotel. The room we initially stayed in had a dank smell and the bed linens felt damp. The manager put us in another room which was better. The lobby had a couple dehumidifiers running, so I think there is a moisture issue with the property. There were many happy guests, so most people, including my husband, aren't put off by the age of the Hillside Inn or the moisture Issues. It has views you can't find anywhere else.

The property was clean which was most important. However it is very old- historical- general upkeep is lacking chipped fury- thresholds damaged ceilings near vents dirty/ over all updates would go along way! Shower was great parking wasn’t bad steep narrow winding drive to get up to I would not attempt in the winter. Over all we would stay again as clean was most important
