"It was really hamming up its Scottishness. Fake suits of armour, shields on the wall, animal skulls everywhere. Just wasn’t classy. The food was ok. They had tried with the vegan option - gnocchi with fried mushrooms - but could have done with some veg and a sauce. They’d run out of Pinot Grigio Blush. "The hotel its a bit dated but the staff its great, welcoming and friendly. I couldnt have breakfast but the receptionist packed a bag for me. Super kind. The room was clean, with a big window so it was very pleasant in the morning. Bathroom was clean and overall a good size. The location its also great and easy transport to the city centre. I feel safe. I will come back again."

"Our room was clean. There was a soccer match going on during the night of our first stay and it did get a bit noisy out on the street outside our room until about 1:00 AM. Other than that it was a good place to stay and within a short distance to Edinburgh castle and the Royal mile. "

We blew an electrical breaker trying to use an American hairdryer and they promptly got the electricity fixed. "Clean comfortable room and welcoming staff! So easy to store your luggage and nice location- a little over a mile to Prince Street and lots of local food nearby. Would stay again!"

"Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, lovely breakfast with lots of choice. Comfortable bed with lovely views. Perfectly located for buses into the city (about 20 mins away). Local independent shops worth a visit too. The room was spotless but badly in need of the refurbishment the hotel is currently undergoing. Accessible rooms are available, but no lift. "Very poor value for money. First, the check in was problematic because the owner was not around so we didn't know what to do. The property's location is very far from the center of town - 30 minutes by bus! Finally they were refurbishing the property so it felt a bit unsafe to leave the car in the yard for fear of falling objects.
