"Our room was spacious and very clean. The private onsen was large and very comfortable, looking out over the river but completely private. We had the kaiseki dinner each night which was elaborate and delicious. The town of Yamanaka is very pretty with fun row of shops specialising in lacquer wear and pottery, some cafes, the usual restaurants and a big public men's and women's bath, along with a beautiful walk in the gorge along the river. All of this is within 5-15 minutes walk of the hotel....

"Our stay at Ryokan Karasawa was lovely! The space was clean and peaceful, and the hosts were incredibly helpful and made us feel right at home. The guide to the local buses and food was invaluable. The building does show its age a bit, but at such a great price and location it's impossible to complain. The futons were REALLY comfy here, too. I'd definitely stay again!"

"I greatly enjoyed my stay at Murataya, a fantastic little ryokan placed excellently along the Katamachi/Korinbo districts. The service was attentive and the rooms were clean, with delicious tea provided alongside an insulated pitcher to be prepared at one's convenience. The communal bathroom is functional and has an attached public but very small onsen.
