"Perfectly located for strolls around Durham: Up to the Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, Durham centre with restaurants, shops and cafés, less than 10 minute walk away. We paid slightly more for a premium river view walk and we did not regret it. Perfect view in the morning and dusk of the world passing by. Loved walking along Durham riverwalk. Highly recommend but would recommend you get dropped off if possible as parking is not free and can stack up if you’re staying more than one night. "

"Lovely pub , rooms very clean ,great staff, the only problem was when we booked this stay it said they served food , when we arrived & asked about this we was told they’d stop serving food a few months ago ,if I’d known this I would have booked somewhere that did this service, also it would have been nice for them to let us no about this change so I could have found somewhere else I think they need to update there site !!!! "We were initially given a room on the first floor, but on returning after going for a meal, we were asked to move, to a room on the ground floor. After five minutes we were asked to move again to the first floor, next to our original room!. The receptionist was very apologetic. We think the bathroom needs updating, it has a shower over the bath, but no hand rails, so getting in and out, can be difficult, as there is nothing to hold on to."

"The hotel is quite dated which adds a lot of character to the property. The general areas are relatively clean but the room we were booked in has seen better days. There were some cobwebs near the windows and the floor was a bit dusty. We arrived almost midnight and quite tired so didn’t really do a complete check of the room. "Floor was being replaced so part of the kitchen was out of action for evening meals and there was a reduced menu. This wasn’t a problem though as there were still lots of dishes to choose from. Staff are always friendly, helpful and polite. Rooms are big and comfy. Top hotel. Shall return!"

"Not the most helpful of checkins which lasted all of 2 minutes - not told about breakfast times or check out. I think more pre occupied on taking the payment. Room was ok, mattresses were both hard so wasn’t the best nights sleep and we had noisy neighbours, as the walls must be thin- children arguing till near midnight wasn’t the best!!!
