The George Of Piercebridge

The George Of Piercebridge

8/10 Good
"The hotel is an old building, grade 2 listed, and as such is harder to maintain, but a lovely place to be - so you have to be a little forgiving regarding the quirks and the odd mishap. We were given a better room than the one booked - it faced the road and the traffic was a bit noisy, but we weren't bothered by it. You do hear through the walls a little more than I'm normally used to, but again, no real problem. Everyone we dealt with was really pleasant and helpful. Sometimes you have to ask for things that would normally just be available - but we did, and they were always provided. The local draught beer was good, as was the Sunday roast that greeted us on arrival. Car parking is excellent, breakfast not the best we've had, but quite OK. We also had one evening meal, which was very good. Room service was a bit hit and miss, in that we were not valeted on one day when we had put the "Please clean" sign out. The following day everything was cleaned through to a very high standard. The hotel is nicely placed, we enjoyed visiting the Roman ruins and walking the riverside paths, and journeys out to the various places we wanted to visit were very easy, with the hotel having a direct connection to the A1(M). We'll certainly consider booking again - there's lots we still want to visit!"

"Just stayed one night so didn't use amenities or facilities. Room was basic but what we needed for the one night. Spacious family room with plenty of tea and milk provided, however was in an old building so needs an upgrade and a deep clean - lots of cobwebs."

"The staff were fantastic. They really look after you and make sure everything is great during your stay. Special mentions to Sarah and Nicola for their excellent customer service ❤️ (Sarah's nails are amazing and she pours a perfect pint!) Also, the young lady on duty on my last morning (Millie?) has the BEST playlist. The entire place is very new with nice clean decor. The only negative is no air conditioning in the room...which normally isn't necessary up north! However with the heatwaves we've been having, it might be worth looking at."

10/10 Excellent
"A very convenient and dog friendly place to stay during our travels. A dog bed, treats, water bowl and poo bags were provided for our dogs, and although there was road noise from our road-facing room, it didn't prevent us from having a good night's sleep. The breakfast hamper in the morning was delicious and allowed us to leave when we liked. The use of the two rear fields to walk the dog was very handy. We also enjoyed our evening meal and appreciated the friendly staff. Would recommend."

The Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk, North Yorkshire

The Golden Fleece Hotel, Thirsk, North Yorkshire

10/10 Excellent
"We had a wonderful stay at the Golden Fleece, it surpassed our expectations. Ample parking, free, at the rear of the hotel, we were warmly welcomed and our room, if it was a standard room (Number 5) was welcoming, comfy, spotlessly clean and with lots of extra amenities to make us feel at home. It had the feel of an upgraded room, newly refurbished, with a great Roberts radio, coffee machine, free water and lovely toiletries (which you could buy as well if you liked them). As we have an elderly pooch, I emailed to ask for a low floor room if at all possible and received an immediate reply reassuring me it was not a problem at all. I appreciated that, as without a lift it can be a bit of a trauma for our lovely old boy. The staff in all areas were lovely, professional, friendly and very helpful. Sam (the pooch) especially enjoyed his breakfast sausage and all the attention. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, although thankfully we had no issues to trouble them with, as they have thought of everything to make a stay a memorable and relaxing one. An 11am checkout is a rarity these days, but very much appreciated, as you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast, with lots of choices and worth the supplement and ease yourself into the day. Location-wise, couldn't be better, right in the heart of Thirsk, we didn't need to use the car at all. Lots to see and do, soak up the atmosphere of a busy market town, all in all a fantastic stay and we will return!"
