"Room photos on expedia showed a room that had been nicely renovated but our room was one that clearly hadn't been done yet. Place didn't seem full so I'm guessing not very many rooms look like the pictures. There is a pretty big difference between the room we got and the pictures they show so it's hard not to feel a bit deceived. Sound proofing is lacking so we could hear car doors slamming for most of the night. Staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean. Location is close to local...

"Had a lovely stay. We were in one of the deluxe rooms in the 2nd building ... room was immaculate clean, super spacious, and so comfortable. Absolutely loved the waterfront balcony. Best hotel breakfast I've had in years as well!! Very much appreciate such a great room that's pet friendly. Would 100% stay again. "

"This was potentially the worst hotel stay I've ever had. I've never stayed in a room with such poor sound proofing before and sleeping was miserable. You could hear EVERY time someone opened their door. It didn't help that the bar had karaoke playing super loudly too on Friday and Saturday night. You could hear everything. The guy working at the front desk was lovely but there's only so much you can do to block the noise. It was hard to fall asleep before 1am and I was woken up both mornings...

"The motel was quite run down on the exterior. The interior seemed clean, unusual handprint on the wall & no hot water. My brother's family also had a room that somehow smelled mike smoke from a room below them. No staff to help with the situation amd they had an 18 month old. Many homeless around and in/out parking lot. Didnt feel super safe to be honest."

In the back of the property was free parking and a nice fellow at the reception desk when we arrived. He explained how everything worked which was quite simple and everything in our room was clean and in working condition. "The Cottage and Castle is absolutely charming, beautifully decorated and situated in a lovely neighborhood of colourfully painted houses and As well it is anIt’s a real gem. However as we returned after an evening out the stench in the air from a soil, composting, wastewater and recycling treatment plant was overwhelming. I there is a solution to this as Chemainus is a charming town and the Cottage and Castle was exceptional! "

"Oh boy...I greatly dislike writing negative reviews. While Chemainus is adorable, the location is fantastic and the exterior is a dream...this aint it. Mouldy drapes, a number of amenities were broken (electric fireplace, mouldy fridge), no wifi, questionably clean bedsheets. And (I have photos as proof) a white substance residue left on the counter next to the bed. I will say that the indoor jet tub was amazing! I swear I heard a cough below us at one point and noticed a little door that looked...

"Beds were clean but hard and small. Furniture looked like it was picked up at a yard sale. Extremely loud throughout the night for some reason. Breakfast was disgusting."
