"I stayed three nights at this hotel, my first experience with a “Hampton”, and the overall impression was mixed.
The staff were consistently friendly and appeared to support both reception and breakfast service on rotation.
Breakfast offered a good range of options, though used plates were sometimes removed before guests had fully finished eating, which I found bizarre.
My room was a twin on the first floor above the dining area, with a sealed window facing a fenced-off pavement area, likely designed to prevent access to the glass roof below. Not an issue for me.
However, three issues affected my stay, two of which were resolved promptly:
- Housekeeping forgot to replace mugs and glasses on one day.
- The air-con control panel repeatedly kept restarting itself overnight, lighting up the room despite being switched off.
The most significant issue however was the fresh-air fan above the door emitting a humming/buzzing noise continually - it could not be turned off without using the master switch, which also cuts power to bedside and bathroom lights. As a result, guests must choose between sleeping with noise or navigating the room in darkness if the master switch is off - options that are neither comfortable nor safe.
A receptionist mentioned this was a known issue without a current fix - it’s surprising to hear given that even budget hotels nowadays have got better ventilation systems in place. An upgrade well overdue?
Overall, I expected more from Hampton by Hilton."
"Style over substance in a lot of areas. Spa is a very small pool area with 4 beds which you can’t access until check in. Default answer to any request is no. We only gave our name at reception to be ushered back out the door and told to comeback later. No offer to hold luggage, told to go and sit outside restaurant and that there would be no food. Reception staff especially rude and unprofessional. Tasting menu good but surrounded by screaming babies and only one good server. Again any changes to menu told no and only the manageress had any idea on customer service "
"Toilet had to pump handle to get it to flush, sink didn't drain quickly so obviously blocked . Should have been picked up by anyone cleaning the room. 1 plug socket and no where near bed. coffee machine at breakfast constantly needed maintainance by staff - saying needed cleaning so didn't enjoy coffee knowing that. hopefully all these issues will be resolved after the upgrade - didnt bother the staff on sunday as had to get to work and upgrade already in progress.
"
"Lovely place to stay, quiet and very comfortable room/bed.
Staff are very nice and the breakfast is great …. Cooked or continental if you prefer, great coffee too!
If you’ve travelled by car, this is definitely the place to stay….large, secure car park and about a 20 minute walk to centre of Canterbury. Taxi about £5.40 back from centre.
Very recommended indeed."
"Hotel has really nice views, plenty of walks along the beach to spend on a sunny day. Spa area is ok, but quite full on the weekend so be prepared :-)
Two things that were a little bit of a let-down; for a hotel that prides itself as a spa hotel it should really have shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Especially after pool time.
Second thing is that the TV is not smart - just something to keep in mind if you want to chill after a little swim around the pool.
Otherwise hotel and amenities are pretty good. "
"Comfortable large double room, clean and fresh smelling. The on-suite was large and well set out. Only negative was a shower that barely sprayed, no pressure and the temperature fluctuated.
Bed was very comfortable and the quilt heavy.
Food was standard pub fare well cooked and delicious. The staff were were good, welcoming and helpful.
Car parking was easy and secure.
Will stay again if available."
