"Excellent staff very kind and hospitable and very nice pub food and breakfast. LargeTV screen to watch the World Cup and BBC I player to catch up on the highlights, all good."

"Clean, comfortable, spacious room. Great, helpful staff. Close to bus station, restaurants, stores, boutiques, and four-FOUR charity shops! :) (Parking is confusing, however. Park in the nearby city lot in a space with WHITE borders-otherwise you may have to pay.)"

"Friendly and good time"

"Great little pub and the owners are fantastic. I loved it"

"Exactly as described. Lovely breakfast. Great communication."

"Excellent"

"Room was beautiful. My partner said the chocolate croissant was the best. Scrambled eggs were the best i have ever had. Tour of castle was great. Staff were lovely. Thanks from Australia."

"We really enjoyed our stay for two nights at Battlesteads. Two things really stood out - the food was excellent (except chips - a minor thing), and the staff were consistently friendly, helpful, and welcoming without being overbearing. The last point, about how all staff were nice to interact with, was a major selling point and is why we will return. "Evening meal was good quality but breakfast is basic. Make sure you have a key to access the pub after hours!"

"We had a great stay"

"I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality and spaciousness of my room (10). Staff were friendly and professional; the assistant at breakfast was first rate in supporting a substantial number of guests. And the Craster kippers were excellent. The one thing missing at breakfast was a bowl of fresh fruit. Dinner was well prepared and presented. All in all a very good experience at the Duke of W."

"Location"

"We always ask for a river view and it was greatly appreciated"
