"LOVED THIS PLACE!! Squeaky clean room and facility, great breakfast, perfect location for a fantastic price. Our first experience here was excellent and would come back here again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend!"
"Only giving two stars because of the staff member who was there when we arrived and the quality of the breakfast. Otherwise, terrible experience.
The staff member who checked us in was very helpful, especially when the first set of keys didn't work and again when I had to ask for extra towels (only two bath towels in a two bedroom suite booked for a family of 5). The room was gross — we found a pair of men's boxer shorts in the bathroom, secondary sink in the second suite room was not cleaned. Remote didn't work properly for the TV, I think 5 different buttons would just mute the TV even though they were marked other things.
We used most of the facilities, and everything was worn down (and borderline unsafe). For instance, loose tiles in the pool area and something overhead that looked like it could fall anytime. There was a door outside from the pool that led to what appeared to be an old outdoor pool propped open, seemed unsafe.
Finally, the issue of breakfast: we were told at check in and handed a sheet in our room keys that said breakfast was from 6-9am. This morning we walked down and were told that was wrong, breakfast starts at 7am on weekends. Thankfully, the breakfast was delicious and checking out was easy, otherwise I may have complained before I even left."
"The breakfast was fabulous. Everything else was disappointing. The hotel was very busy and a bus had dropped off a group of guests. They had two receptionists to check everyone in and the li e was 5 deep. Once I got my room assignment, it took me another 15 minutes to catch an elevator because one of the three elevators was out of service.
The pool was a disaster. Dirty, wet towels overflowing, trash everywhere, cloudy water. I know they are renovating to pool soon, but cleaning is still helpful.
The rooms are fine, a little worn out."
Courtyard by Marriott Charleston Downtown/Civic Center
8/10 Good
"Spacious room - immaculate. Bathroom - immaculate. Housekeeping staff was attentive to our needs - excellent. Outdoor seating options-great. Check in staff - wonderful. My only complaints - why can't Marriot offer breakfast included with your stay? It's more expensive than other nearby hotels that offer breakfast. I realize I am paying for better accommodations - but in this economy, it would be nice. The only other complaint is having to pay for parking - though I understand that is not Marriot, but the city of Charleston. Not much to do in the city. The number of unhoused people is definitely a deterrent to staying downtown. Overall, since we had to be in Charleston, this was the best accommodation."
