"Booked for a birthday present. Was nice but we were in the Roman house bit which is a new extension so if you are wanting to stay in the original grand hotel you should probably request as I was surprised to be in a new extension. Also opposite the extension there were significant building works going on and the road could be quite noisy with bikes and car exhausts even on the top floor. "Absolutely beautiful house and weathering pretty well considering age and National Trust status. Quirky and very comfortable but not contemporary so don’t expect gleaming and modern. That’s the absolute beauty of this place and we loved it. The staff were fabulous and service was outstanding. House and grounds superb. Special birthday treat and will recommend until the cows come home! Well situated for York and a wonderful way to embrace history with this wonderful house. Fabulous!"
