Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site

Mounds from Pre-Colombian Native American city (Mississippian culture) located in Collinsville, IL, near St. Louis, MO. Dates to 1050-1350. Added to list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1982.

Monk's Mound covers almost 14 acres and rises 100 feet. A part of the larger ancient city of Cahokia that at its peak housed 10-15 thousand people.
