"Food was amazing! Breakfast and dinner were made from locally-farmed ingredients, and they looked like art on plate. Room was clean and comfortable. Owners were nice and friendly, and very hospitable. "

"The location, view of the forest from the river and private onsen bath were as described and very good.
We were half board and the quality of the food in my opinion was really poor, so much so we stopped eating in the restaurant after day one of a three day stay.
I can’t comment on the Japanese menu but the western menu was inedible. It wouldn’t be difficult to offer a simple continental buffet for breakfast."
"Clearly when this hotel was new, it was a fabulous place. However, the property is now extremely dated, with 80s style decor throughout, and most seriously, poorly-maintained rooms containing worn and damaged furniture. The bathroom fittings have their original chrome scrubbed away. The towels were provided in multiple colours.
The staff were very helpful, and were not at fault at all.
The onsen facilities, while dated and in need of a refresh, were good. Although staying for two nights, we were unfortunately unable to sample the rooftop pool as it was closed due to high winds, when the wind was certainly not a problem on one day.
The saving grace was the breakfast, which was plentiful and provided lots of choice.
If you are aware that you're going to stay at a place possibly not refreshed since the 1980s, it's ok, but otherwise you may prefer to pay a little more and be sure of reaching a reasonable minimum standard."
"A very comfortable place to stay while exploring the area. The hotel is quite new, modern, clean, and well appointed. The lounge with free drinks is a great place to process the day’s adventures while enjoying a local beer or sake.
The staff are incredibly helpful, kind, and charming.
I look forward to returning!"
"Location is amazing, very isolated (we were happy to get the pick up and drop off, as we don't travel by car). İt snowed over night and we had a nice walk to the lake and lakeside onsen - magical. The breakfast was wonderful, lots of different Japanese breakfast items with view to the snowy forest.
However, we couldn't help feeling that our stay was a bit of an inconvenience to the host family, which was not really about language problem. This was the first time we have experienced that in Japan...

"Friendly helpful staff, but that was the best part: the hotel has a drab exterior with extremely dirty windows within a run down locale opposite a disused/derelict building. The inside was functional but uniformly tired and dated. Our room was clean enough but the bedding was stained, the sheets and towels were old and thin. A simple warm air blowing heater kept us comfortably warm (no aircon but not needed in late October). The water went cold after one shower but was hot again by the morning. I reported weak wifi and was given an in-room wired hub which worked; except that on both evenings the hotel’s internet connection dropped out repeatedly. We made do for a couple of nights but wouldn't consider returning."
