"Our stay started out with a friendly greeting from the bellmen and the ease of having someone to manage luggage. The lobby is inviting, calm and smells wonderful. The front desk staff is polite, friendly and professional. The room was clean and well appointed with a Nespresso machine in the room, a perk for me for sure! The shower was hot with great water pressure. Very clean and comfortable. The included breakfast is just wonderful. Fresh fruit and vegetables, hot foods like eggs and sausage, an assortment of pastries, cheeses and yogurt and fresh brewed lattes. We had dinner in the rooftop restaurant and both the service and the food were incredible. The view of the Acropolis is beautiful. This hotel is a quite oasis in the heart of a very busy, noisy Athens."
"Great location, walking distance to Plaka, Parthenon and great restaurants.
Like all central Athens hotel its old and pretty basic. Rooms kind of small nice view of the Acropolis. Each room has its own a/c which is noisy and the remote very confusing. Staff great and helpful, just not 4 star as advertised."
"Despite my late arrival, check-in went quickly, and I got into my room quickly. The breakfast was acceptable, but it was difficult to find the teabags and low calorie sweetener."
"The location is fantastic and the staff is really friendly, but DO NOT stay on the highest floor. The hotel restaurant is right above, and the noise is completely unbearable.
From 12:30 AM to 2:00 AM every night, they drag heavy tables and chairs around to deep clean. Then breakfast prep starts at 6:30 AM and the scraping starts all over again. Earplugs don't help at all against the heavy thudding through the ceiling. You get maybe 4 hours of actual quiet time. It honestly felt like paying to suffer.
Also, the bathroom makes zero sense. The bathtub is awkwardly high, and water splashes everywhere when you shower. Since the floor is marble, it turns into a wet, slippery hazard. Getting in and out is genuinely dangerous.
Bottom line: Nice spot and great service, but I would never stay on the top floor again."
"The hotel is great as a place to stay.
However, we booked two rooms - one king bed and one family room.
When we arrived they gave us a king room and a separate connecting room with a door between a double room and a twin room.
All good - two rooms as booked, one good as a family room.
On checkout though they insisted we pay city tax for three rooms, not two, even though Expedia quoted city tax for just two rooms and no-one had told us they would class the booking as three rooms.
The woman on the desk was condescending and unhelpful telling us to look at the terms on the website.
Our booking is with Expedia and it clearly says two rooms only. So we’re now trying to get our money back.
Very poor service."
"Clean, quiet, comfortable and luxurious, the Sofitel proves that you get what you pay for. I only stayed one night but made the most of the time I had: the rooftop restaurant was gorgeous and all was delicious. Breakfast was stellar! And I am not even a breakfast person (other than travel days where my next meal is an unknown). Service is excellent from the moment they open your taxi door. Everyone speaks multiple languages and goes out of the way to be helpful and friendly. A very nice experience"
"The purpose of staying here was to be convenient to the airport. Honestly, I thought it was 10-15 minutes away and it was 30. But the free hourly shuttle was the win. Dinner was good, buffet breakfast offered many options but not as tasty as other places we stayed. Front desk staff were not unfriendly but not friendly either. In general, only our waiter was personable and friendly. Otherwise, this property served a purpose and if you are leaving by ferry, could not be closer."
