Owner was very friendly and helpful The hotel is old and very very charming with an amazing view of the canal. However it was definitely not clean, very dusty and our toilet was not cleaned properly upon our arrival. I believe even an old space should be clean.

Clean traditional hotel, super central hotel

Such a lovely old traditional hotel in a brilliant central location for exploring the city centre. We walked from main station in 20 mins, check in was very efficient and the room had a gorgeous view over the River Amstel. Bars and restaurants are all around the corners from here and felt very safe walking around at night. Rooms were very clean and warm as we stayed in February. Highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again if we return.

Very Disappointed

Great location, friendly & helpful staff. Hotel is very old, tired, very small dated rooms. No air conditioning, overhead light in bedroom was like a stadium floodlight alternative was 2 very small wall lights by the bed. The pictures posted on your site are very deceiving.

Nice stay

This is our fourth trip staying at the Amsterdam House. Great friendly service. Can be kind of noisy at times. A couple of nights there were very noisy guests above us at 2AM. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the visit.

It's a very cozy little hotel with a nice breakfast buffet and extremely friendly staff that made an excellent coffee :). The night was nice and quiet. They were very accommodating to our dog.

Terrible room

We stayed in room 35 which was at the back of the hotel. Two twin beds push together left barely enough room to walk on the sides of the bed. The room is excessively small. No air conditioning. Double window had no screens. Windows opened up to rear of courtyard which allowed the adjacent rooms to be able to look into our room quite easily. No space to put our luggage except on the floor. This room should be classified as a hostel, not a hotel.

BED BUG ALERT. This hotel has BED BUGS. I stayed in a room two nights. The first night I found 2 bugs and didn’t realize they were bed bugs but the second night many bugs arrived. I believe they were fumigating another room when I arrived and this is why they took time to reach my room. The mattresses look new with covers but do not be fooled. I was advised I would get a refund but as of 11 days I have not received or heard back from hotel. Location is nice but not worth the sleepless night sitting in a chair.

This hotel has BEDBUGS and is filthy! They are aware of the situation and don’t do anything about it. They only offered another room, also full of bedbugs. I told the front desk about the bedbugs and they just offered to change the sheets. The sheets are full of copper stains, clearly showing the blood the bedbugs have left of the bites on previous guests. Another couple staying at the hotel was also complaining about the infestation in their room when we went down to try to find a solution to the problem and the front desk was also unhelpful to them. I asked for a refund on the first day so I could leave to another hotel but they refused. I was bitten really bad all over my arms, back and face! It was truly a traumatizing experience. The rooms are incredibly dirty and small with no air conditioner. It seems the entire hotel has an infestation of bedbugs and it’s really old and unkempt. This is truly the WORST place I have ever had to stay in and made my trip to Amsterdam feel like a health hazard.

When we booked the room, we knew that we had booked a twin room. It was only when we arrived that we realised that the twin room was in fact bunk beds. Not exactly suitable for two older persons travelling. If it had not been our last night, we would have tried to find something else. The main area of concern though was the condition of the room - on entering you were met with an awful smell. We discovered that this was coming from the drain in the shower. Also the whole tap on the sink was loose and the toilet cistern and hardware cracked with paint peeling in the bathroom. The property needs some serious maintenance and updating. Looking at further reviews, we discovered that the property has had a problem with bed bugs too so not very conducive for a good nights sleep. Overall, this property should be more accurately described as a hostel based on the room that we stayed in, rather than a three star hotel. The host was friendly and we gave him our feedback in the morning.
