"Hate to say it because this boutique hotel already appears popular, but it's fantastic. The location is right on the beach and a short 10-minute walk to the lively commercial area with all the bars, restaurants and shopping. We had a premium room with balcony overlooking the beach which we adored. Sipping port wine on the balcony after dinner was priceless. The actual room was on the smaller size but was totally adequate. Generally, we’re only in it to change and sleep anyway. Other rooms have courtside views. The restaurant on the top floor was also very good. The breakfast was typical but better quality than most other hotels we stayed at in Portugal."
Pine Cliffs Hotel, a Luxury Collection Resort, Algarve
10/10 Excellent
"This is a stunning resort that is relaxing and luxurious. The staff are friendly and the setting is amazing. The only downside is that they do not heat the swimming pools outside making them essentially unusable. The walk down to the beach with the elevator down, followed by elevated wooden walkway is incredible. Enjoying sunset at the champagne bar is unforgettable. The rooms are comfortable and full of charm. Wonderful experience!"
"Excellent in most ways but just failing in one key area: the sunbeds which are, after all, used for many hours a day, are far too taut and require, for any comfort for over 15 minutes, a mattress as they have in some of the beds in their sister hotel, 10 minutes' walk away
This is such a pity, as so much else is nice about the hotel. It could also do with a wider range of pillows for the room beds, which are memory foam and therefore not the most comfortable. The air conditioning is inadequate and needs to provide lower temperatures. We were too warm every night, in the month of October. As in many resorts, the nightly entertainment is mediocre, with the same kind of musicians playing too loudly, to the discomfort of those who want to chat rather than dance or be deafened, using backing tracks and with little ability to play requests or vary music styles. If the volume was lower, most people could put up with the very average and sometimes below-average singing quality of the artists. This drives away rather than attracts many residents but those who have low appreciation and high tolerance levels. The food was excellent at breakfast and the table arrangements were fine. Pool water was always clean and at a nice temperature, even whilst the sea is warmer than usual. This hotel is closing for an upgrade over the next 6 or 7 months, and we hope that these problems might be addressed to bring it up to the standard of which it is certainly capable. No BBC News is available."
"I had a great stay here! The accommodation was lovely, and the location was perfect. It’s conveniently located close to the Old Town, and if you want to explore the New Town, it’s around a 15-minute walk or just a 5-minute taxi ride away.
The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I was even given a complimentary upgrade at check-in, which was such a lovely surprise!
As a solo female traveller, feeling safe and comfortable is really important to me, and this accommodation exceeded my expectations. I felt safe and secure throughout my stay, and the staff were attentive, looked out for me and made me feel genuinely comfortable.
I would definitely recommend this accommodation, especially to anyone travelling solo. Great location, lovely staff and a really positive experience overall. I would happily stay here again!"
"The hotel grounds were good, breakfast was plentiful even though repetitive day by day. They had nightly entertainment, some good, some not. The on site Flor de Sal was very good, the service there was excellent. My biggest complaint was the unfriendliness of the reception and staff everywhere. No one smiles or greets you when you walk by. I felt there was a general unfriendly vibe from the staff everywhere. They don't seem happy or pretend to be happy for the clients!! My room was fine, pillows were lumpy, I asked for new ones, and they were not any better. The bathroom was the worst: my shower had mold, All it needed was some bleach and cleaning. The washroom faucet was scratched, shower door didn't close. More than once, I told the reception about it, nothing was done. They did offer a new room but it was a huge hassle to move so we declined. The pools were ok, the adult pool was often dirty, we didn't use the outdoor pools much. The gym is nice and well equipped. Overall, it is a good hotel but the staff needs to trained to be nicer and friendlier with smiles! I don't think I would choose this hotel again. We stayed in Lisbon at a PortoBay and the vibe there was better, and hence chose this one,"
