Turtle Beach

Nestled between rainforest and the Caribbean Sea is this golden beach where you can escape the crowds, enjoy water sports and relax under swaying palm trees.

Rolling mountains of the rainforest frame the skyline behind the crescent-shaped Ocho Rios Bay Beach, also known as Turtle Beach. Kick back and relax on this stretch of golden sand, look out over the crystal-clear water to the Caribbean Sea and enjoy the laid-back Jamaican lifestyle.

Ocho Rios itself is a small port town on the Caribbean Sea in Saint Ann Parish on the northern coast of Jamaica. The destination is popular with travellers, particularly for visits to the nearby Dunn’s River Falls. After a day of sightseeing or for a break from the activities in town, take a walk past Ocean Village Shopping Centre to reach the beach. Relax under the coconut palms or on a beach chair under the shade of an umbrella. Watch the cruise ships as they come to dock.

The water colour changes from clear to dark blue as it deepens. The sea here is clear and shallow, perfect for shore and ocean sports. Snorkel, swim, go Jet-Skiing, explore the reef from a glass-bottom boat, parasail, kayak, enjoy a deep-sea fishing tour or take a sunset cruise. After a day of action, pick up a snack or a lunch special from the cabana located on the beach or stroll to a nearby café. There is also a hair-braiding stall on the sand. Just behind the beach is the craft market, a lively place where you can find hats, carvings, jewellery and coffee.

The shallow waters and lifeguards on duty make Ocho Rios Bay Beach a safe spot to swim. While a number of resorts line the beach and share the sand, the beach itself is often quiet. For a more social experience, visit on the weekend when many local residents come to relax.

Ocho Rios Bay Beach (Turtle Beach) lies between Sunset Jamaica Grande and Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal about a mile (1.5 kilometres) from the centre of town. Local parking is available. The beach has a small entrance fee and amenities with rest rooms, showers and changing rooms.
