We knew that we had selected a old motel property, so we did not expect a chain motel experience. However, one of the cooling/heating units put out no heat (it was chilly and rainy during our stay), even after I had to get the manager to come and fix it (it had tripped a breaker simply by being used!). Beds were clean and comfortable. Small refrigerator would freeze ANYTHING you put inside. No ice available, so we had to go buy ice /cooler to keep things cold but not frozen. We were not terribly messy, so the fact that there was no housekeeping apparent for two days was not a BIG deal, but it was noticed. Property conditions were horrible: broken appliances/etc. at rear of property so when you went to visit the creek area, it was very "junky". Large trash can outside entrance to the interior rooms was full the afternoon we arrived and STILL unemptied three days later. Weeds/cigarette butts/trash blowing around. Office staff seemed to be a family unit, but the younger members sat there on their devices doing nothing when there is PLENTY of cleaning needing to be done! Man I assume to be manager was pleasant but seemed like job/interactions were drudgery. On the positive side, grill and bar staff were GREAT! Food was good, but it only offers pub food, but that is fine. Wings and breaded mushrooms were really good! We would NOT stay here again..there are many choices of "motels" in Maggie Valley, so don't choose this one at ANY price.
