This facility appears to be a government housing project with people going in and out of various rooms with no resistance. All seemed to know each other. We did not see tourists or businesspeople using the facility.

We purchased the stay on Expedia the night before my wife’s cousin’s wedding. We drove nearly 3 hours. The wedding was in Gainsville. This is the Inn we chose due to the timing. We got in from the wedding after 11pm. In the morning we were in disbelieve and discussed when we saw the condition of the room once we had sunlight. Black Mold throughout the popcorn ceiling, mildew and algae growth around the front door and baseboards and the shower curtain rod falling off the wall. I took photos and emailed the Howard Johnston Ocala. We are due a full refund. This is unbelievable. They advised that we contact Expedia and Expedia would have to work through them since we paid thru Expedia.

We were attending a sr softball event, it was reasonably priced, and we felt safe..breakfast was nice. O.J Coffee, pancakes, English muffins, muffins toast..enough for all of us to leave full and not disappointed..it ws close to softball complex so for us it was perfect, exactly what we needed..and we felt safe, room was clean.....no complaints

Overall it was a good stay, the water didn’t get very hot and there’s a lot of sketchy people around. i didn’t feel very safe staying there by myself. the staff was nice.

Gave a creepy vibe. The bathroom window was open when we got in our room. The room had a connecting door to the room next door and it was unlocked. The whole place looked worn down and dingy. Nothing like the photos online.

The housekeeping staff do leave the bathroom window in the rooms open as apart of our policies to ensure our guests are not overwhelmed by the smell of cleaning products upon check in. As for the connecting door in your room, I do apologize if that made you uncomfortable. Our rooms are based on availability and that may have been the last of the room type you booked that we had available for the night and for that i do apologize. The shower sprayed in different directions. There were no facial tissue at all in the room. The temperature of the room never got anywhere near the level we set it at. The toilet clogged from just toilet paper. When we checked in, we were told the breakfast would include either waffles or pancakes... it had neither. The only fruit was green bananas. There was no bread of any type (muffins, danish, just plan bread). The only thing available was Fruit Loops, Frosted Flakes and a couple of instant oatmeal varieties. There were people sitting on the stairs outside doing weed and other substances. The area did not seem kept up, so appeared unsafe.

The room 224 was disgusting, there were dead roaches, mold and mildew in the bathroom, black spots in the bath tub, the room smelt stale, there was one tiny garbage can, the beds were like concrete and the pillows were as small as throw pillows, there were people walking around acting like they were tweeking from drugs, there was a window in the shower that was open with metal grating over it. This was the worst experience we have ever had at a motel! It needs to be shutdown and extremely updated and maybe some new surveillance equipment installed so your not worried about your vehicle in the parking lot.

Room was dirty, sheets and floor looked like some other guest just left the room. Unable to sleep due to noisy guests that stayed up to 3am drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana just outside our door. We called the administration asking for change of room and after 4hrs they said we were going to be moved to another room, out of the blue, they said no transfer was allowed. Another call was made to administration due to the drunk people outside our room but nobody came until those same drunk guests jump the fence to the poor and get into the pool at 3-4am. We booked for three nights and leave the hotel after our second night just because of an important reunion we had; if not, we were out of that place the very same minute we arrived to the room. Be aware that if you travel with an elderly (like we did), this "hotel" (motel) don't have elevator or wheelchair ramp.

Was supposed to be poolside. They didn't give me poolside. When I booked, the big perk was dining from 6 - 9 pm, as I was working all day, when I asked about the restaurant upon check in, I was told they only did pizza, which they were out of. Floors in room was sticky. Rooms were extremely small. They had my reservation for three people, I had.to go back and get more towels. There was no soap and the fridge was broken. The TV stations were mostly in Spanish, so relaxing was not easy. I travel to Ocala a lot and I haven't experienced anything like this at other hotels. HJ used to be such a a nice place, no more. I won't be going back there.

So, overall this place has 2.5 stars and I really can't tell why. The 50's called and they want their hotel back. The location is so close to the interstate and ALL of the doors face it, so all day, and all night the traffic from I-75 is droning on. The room itself was drab and blah. The TV was small and not smart. The Jacuzzi tub was as old as I am and EXTREMELY loud. The one saving grace for this property, the staff!! They were outstanding, understanding, empathetic and accommodating.

Unfortunately, we booked two rooms with this hotel for three nights and upon arrival the rooms undated, runned put, smelled of mold and the rooms were dirty. It was like housekeeping just pulled the covers up and over. There was hair in the sheets because they were dirty sheets and bathroom was disgusting. However, the young gentleman apologized and gave us our money back.

The old HoJo feel is still alive around here. The office and lobby are in a separate building across the parking lot. Rooms are spacious and clean, bathrooms are large. Rooms have mini fridge and microwave, no coffee maker but you can request one at the lobby. Staff was friendly and efficient, breakfast was free and good.

It’s an old property, very dated. Staff does the best with what they have to work with. Should not advertise free breakfast, what they offered is pathetic. Basically pancakes or toast.
