What to do in Kolossi

Life in Paphos revolves around the waterfront, where you will find the lively Seafront Promenade. Strolling along the palm tree-lined walkway is an essential Paphos experience and is one of the best ways to get a feel for life in this coastal Cypriot city. The Amathus Ruins make up an archeological site with a history that stretches back more than 3,000 years. Set on a hill east of Limassol, the crumbling ruins include an agora (marketplace), a temple complex, excavated houses and the remains of the city’s water system.

Limassol Castle is an imposing sandstone castle that stands guard over the city’s old harbor. In addition to offering scenic views of the city from its rooftop, this centuries-old fortification is home to the Cyprus Medieval Museum, which displays artifacts from Cyprus’ Early Christian era and onwards.

Aphrodite’s Rock is the ocean birthplace of the mythical Greek goddess of love and beauty. According to legend, she rose from the water in 1,200 B.C. and chose to start her worldly life from this large rock. Visit the serene pebble beach nearby to see the sunlit waters during the day and stay for the romantic views when the sun descends beyond the horizon.

Kolossi Castle is one of the most impressive relics of Cyprus’ medieval era. Dating back to the 13th century, the castle once served as the production site of this island’s famous dessert wine. Standing nearly 70 feet (21 meters) high, the castle’s stone-brick tower is a popular viewpoint.
