Outstanding local wines, pioneer heritage, beautiful red river gumtrees and the lush banks of the Murray River make long, sunny days in this city even better.

Situated on the south bank of the mighty Murray River, Swan Hill is a relaxed regional city bathed in sunshine and surrounded by picturesque citrus farms and vineyards. Incorporating Robinvale, Beverford, Nyah, Piangil, Lake Boga and Ultima, the Swan Hill vicinity offers fascinating pioneer history, beautiful river views, delicious local produce, regional wines and a thriving arts community.

Explore Swan Hill’s city centre to discover a strip of interesting boutique shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants serving fine local produce and wines. Check out the clock tower, the stately town hall and the bridge that crosses the river over the New South Wales border, dating back to 1896. In front of the Swan Hill railway station, you can’t miss the giant statue of a Murray cod. Stop by the Burke and Wills Tree, a huge Moreton Bay fig tree that commemorates the lives of the two outback explorers.

Go to the Pioneer Settlement to experience a piece of pioneering history on the banks of the Murray River. River cruises operate on the P.S. Pyap, a late 19th-century paddle steamer. The Riverside Park is a lovely green area with picnic spots, barbecue facilities and a playground. Stroll through the Nyah Vinifera State Forest to appreciate the lush eucalyptus forests of this region.

Experience some of the local cultural community with a visit to the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery and Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum. Nearby Lake Boga offers family-friendly camping and swimming spots.

Balmy nights in Swan Hill are perfect for taking a seat at the outdoor terrace of a local restaurant and experiencing some of the region’s excellent produce and wines. Swan Hill’s Mediterranean climate and mighty river make for ideal conditions to produce rich and full-flavoured wines.

Swan Hill is just over 3.5-hours’ drive northwest from Melbourne. Reach Swan Hill on Victoria’s V/Line railway service or fly to Swan Hill Airport.

Visit the region during the Swan Hill Region Food and Wine Festival, occurring annually in March, to experience a showcase of fantastic local produce and wines.
