I’ve been visiting this hotel every year for the past 10 years and always considered it the best option in Sozopol – great location, close to town, and just a quick taxi ride to the trendy beach clubs. Unfortunately, this year I got an “upgrade” of a different kind. By booking through Expedia, I ended up with a tiny room and a view hardly worth looking at. Apparently, lower price = lower quality, and a decade of loyalty means absolutely nothing here. Too bad – I used to recommend this hotel to friends… now I’ll have to think twice myself.
I recently stayed at this charming boutique hotel and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The hotel itself is small, but beautifully designed with a great interior that exudes both elegance and comfort. The restaurant on-site serves delicious food that truly exceeded my expectations, making dining in a real treat.
The views from the hotel are simply mesmerizing, adding to the peaceful and serene atmosphere that makes it the perfect getaway. The service was exceptional—every staff member was very helpful and accommodating, going out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. It was so delightful that I ended up extending my stay by an extra day.
The location is also incredibly convenient, within walking distance to everything you could need or want to explore. Overall, this hotel is a hidden gem—quiet, charming, and an absolute pleasure to stay at. Highly recommended!
The bedroom air conditioning did not work. Both televisions did not work. The toilet smelled of cigarrette smoke even after air freshener. They allowed a dog to swim in the pool. The breakfast buffet person was rude, unhelpful and charged for (1) coffee, which was reversed by the front manager, but left us with negative feelings. This was highly rated and more costly, but not worth it. We extensively travel Europe and Bulgaria, but this was such a disappointment.
Lovely new hotel. Clean and well designed. Great ambiance and located next to the harbour. Well priced and food always was of high standard. Highly recommended.
Lovely hotel. Unfortunately they changed the air conditioning for heating the day we arrived which was totally unnecessary. It was incredibly hot during the night.
Also we received an unscheduled guest at 10pm - the bellboy entered the room without knocking as he went to the wrong room. Was not impressed!
This luxury hotel is perfectly located at the old town entrance. Our bedroom with view of the harbor was terrific. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices, and the staff was very helpful. It's probably one of the best hotel choices in the Burgas region.
We loved everything about our stay at Blu Bay Sozopol. The hotel was gorgeous and the staff was so helpful and kind. Sozopol was a charming town and the location allowed us easy access to the places we wanted to see.
Also, we are still talking about the paella at the restaurant.
The hotel is ok but the view from the room/ balcony was facing a small internal yard and a wall. Parking cost was supposed to be included as advertised on the site and agreed with Hotels.com but they wanted a high fee for it. Luckily we managed to park by the restaurant with agreement of its manager. Some staff has a snobbish attitude towards clients.
What a fabulous hotel. From the moment we were arrived and the bell-boy whisked our car into the garage - yes, you have to pay extra, but it is underground and worth it for the security and keeping out of the punishing sun - we were made to feel welcome. The common facilities are excellent, with a few seating areas available, all comfortable and well designed. The room was huge and the bed extremely comfortable. The only gripe I have is that there are no comfortable chairs in the room. The sitting area is small and frankly hostile - a couple of thick seat pads pushed against a wall, with a couple of tiny cushions. But this is the only complaint. The service was excellent throughout, the pool area spotlessly clean and well equipped and monitored. The spa looked lovely, although we didn't try it. And the breakfast was absolutely superb. We will be back.
Great hotel
The breakfast staff need to learn how to prepare eggs though, as the choice of eggs is poor and rather overcooked, which for a France or UK price level hotel is a serious down point.
Parking was a surprise at checkout that could have been avoided if alerted at check-in that there is a daly charge = 10% of the price per night...
Everyone was wearing masks at all times which was really reassuring
The hotel is fantastic and from the moment you walk in you relax. The rooms are really well designed and the beds are really comfy. We stayed in a standard double room which was lovely. I got a peep in to one of the apartments which look large and amazing and overlook the marina with large balconies. When I stay again I will pay the extra and book one of these.
Breakfast is really good with a selection of cheeses, meats, fish, yoghurts, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, pastries etc. and free flowing Prosecco.
The spa and gym is really good and well equipped. The pool on the roof terrace is lovely and there are plenty of loungers and day beds to sunbathe.
Service was really good and friendly. Bobby was very good and made an effort to tell us about Bulgaria and places to visit.
There is only one downside of the hotel and that is the air freshener/fragrance they use in the communal areas of the hotel. It is strong and sickly. I’ve also read other reviews that have said the same thing. They don’t need to use any as the hotel is bright and airy to gets a lot of fresh air.
Overall this is one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in and I travel regularly so have lots to compare it to. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it. It is by far the best hotel in Sozopol.
Lovely hotel in a great location. 5 min walk to the beach and in the centre of the old town. Spotlessly clean with great happy and helpful staff. Pool a little small but always seemed to be a spare sunbed with a fantastic view over the marina. Breakfast plentiful and tasty. Our room was a very good size with an enormous bed and the most comfy pillows slept perfectly all 11 nights. Only one sour point. We paid 50 lev for a taxi from the airport. I asked the guy on reception if he could organise a taxi for our return when leaving. He said they had a partner company they used which I thought would be fine but, this cost us 80 lev and when the driver turned up he had another person with him which we thought was a little odd but said nothing. It turned out it was a friend of his and he made a detour on the way to the airport to drop his friend off (this was all without telling us what he was doing) this did leave a slightly sour end to our stay after what had been a wonderful time in Sozopol. My advise is to organise a cab on the web both ways before you leave for your stay. We did this on the way there but not on the way back.
The staff were a joy, especially when we arrived with no baggage (lost in transit) - we were instantly supplied with spare toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, etc., - & very helpful. The hotel was generally spotless & well-maintained. It is also in a perfect location, overlooking the harbour & within easy walking distance both of the old town & the beach. The only negative was the disco from night club across the road, but the double glazing blocked it out , & we grew quite fond of it after a while. We'd quite happily stay here again.
Thank you to everyone at the Blue Bay Hotel! Our stay was pure perfection. The facility is gorgeous -- a very modern yet warm and welcoming design with the grounds beautifully maintained. The hotel staff goes above and beyond at every turn. We were greeted warmly every day and our comfort and enjoyment were very important to them. The restaurant offers a wide-array of wonderful food selections, prepared with thought and great ingredients with both inside and outdoor seating. The breakfast - included in our room price -- was wonderful and abundant. We would be delighted to stay again and highly recommend the Blu Bay Sozopol hotel to everyone.
