The hotel is absolutely magical. Breakfast is phenomenal and in such a beautiful location the hotel staff were helpful, friendly and kind. I got engaged at this hotel and the hotel staff answered all of my emails over months to help me coordinate truly 10 out of 10 experience. I would highly recommend anyone stay there!

I absolutely loved this hotel. I have no negatives at all. The grounds are stunning and full of wildlife. I really enjoyed sitting by the lake watching the geese. There are even bee hives which my son discovered. Beautiful sunset on the mountains and just the most idyllic spot. Our room had windows which opened looking out at the lake and the bathroom was huge. Definitely will return for longer next time.

The most relaxing place that I ever encountered in my life! The garden and rose scent were like magic. Architecture and extravagant decor were like from Versalles. The fact that the movie Sound of Music was made there explains everything.

Be sure to request a room in the main hotel if you’re there for Sound of Music experience. There was a summer university program there the week we arrived. They used all rooms in the main hotel. Breakfast was included with our stay. If it’s an option, choose it. The dining room was absolutely charming and so well preserved. Together with the gardens, they were really the highlight of our stay. Go during a full or partial moon so night views are possible. It’s truly majestic! The views may be the best in Salzburg while still only less than a 10 min. Drive to the historic center of town. Bikes are included which I highly recommend to take out for a short ride around the lake. It’s quaint and provides for beautiful views of the property from across the lake. Overall, it was beyond a pleasure to stay at the property.

I did not realize until I had gotten there that we were staying at an adjacent addresss , not the original building. It was nice to have some access to the original building when we went for breakfast. There was construction going on near the property on the “mountain side” had I know, I would have selected the lake view. Breakfast was in a beautiful room and had a wide variety of dishes.

This hotel was more fantastic than I could have imagined. The view of the lake and the mountains was stunning. The staff were wonderful, we had great drinks and snacks at the bar each evening. Breakfast was delicious. I was worried about staying so far from the old town, but the walk into town was very pleasant and I liked staying in a quieter part of town. 100% want to come back again.

Absolutely STUNNING palace with views straight out of the Sound of Music. You truly can’t beat that. When we visited, the property was undergoing some construction (totally understandable), however the accommodations made around it were not helpful. Difficult path to the check-in that was muddied quite heavily by rain. The staff seemed stressed out, and thus weren’t super helpful. We stayed in the palace, and while it was absolutely breathtaking and breakfast was AMAZING, our room’s layout was very awkward. That’s the price you pay for staying in such a beautiful, historic property I suppose!
