"Bedroom was OK but the bathroom was not. It was poorly lit and dingy, with no shelves, nothing to hang towels on, no plug in the sink and the toilet paper holder was hanging on for dear life. Generally shabby looking."

"Location was perfect, bus stop right outside. Room and bathroom werr very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included in our booking but the guesthouse doesn't provide breakfast, had to fight with hotels.com to get some money back. "

"The location to Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street is very close. Which was wonderful. The Metro restaurant onsite is amazing. The food was so delicious. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The prices are cheaper and better than the pub food in the Grassmarket. The room was very clean. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. I love the fact that they have a filtered water station in the hallway so you can refill your empty bottle of water. Walk with a reusable water bottle to you can fill it up for free. You’ll need after all that walking. Don’t hesitate book it. They have a gym and sauna. Prime location to everthing in the Grassmarket. I would stay here again if I even went back to Edinburgh. "

"I booked a double bed en-suite room. I was initially offered a room with a separate external bathroom, then a small room with an en-suite when I questioned why it is different from my booking. This room was subpar, noisy and uncomfortable beds. Shower was limp. Door to toilet did not close and was hanging by a thread for want of a better expression. In summary, it’s a NO. "

"We were looking for a castle stay in Britain as kind of a "bucket list" item. The Melville isn't exactly a "castle," more of a retired/repurposed palace, but the overall experience was what we were looking for - suits of armor, antique paintings and so on. The restaurant is awesome! Great dishes and service! Staff was very helpful. Rooms mixed ancient decor with modern amenties like ample power outlets, modern bathroom, etc. Grounds have many paths for nature walks. Was a nice experience!"

"The hotel is in a lovely building, but the decor in our room was odd and dated - it needed a bit of tlc and updating in our opinion. Lovely views of the city and beyond. We wish the blinds/curtains had been black out, as it got quite light in the morning. The big light in our room flickered a lot, so we couldn’t use it. Free parking was great. The room was cleaned each day and had basic amenities - kettle with tea and coffee, ironing board and a safe in the wardrobe."
