"Close to the airport but we were not aware of any noise from the planes. The hotel was clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly . There was a wide choice of hot and cold dishes for breakfast . Bar food was equally good and served quickly despite the number of people there . The beds were comfortable, the shower was a good strength and tea and coffee was available in the room."

"I absolutely detested the evening meal service available because it was premised on a "minimal waiter/waitress service model. The idea was that you order and pay for your meal at the bar and it is brought to your numbered table when ready by the same staff member. The problem comes when you order something else, an extra glass of wine in my case.Waitress said I either had to interrupt my meal and walk to the bar and order and pay for the extra glass of wine ( which is what she really wanted me...

"I was able to check in online before I arrived at The Kicking Dickey. The staff were very helpful and friendly along with the pub which I thought was very welcoming. My room was at the rear of the property so away from any noise. The room itself was comfortable and well maintained, I think it might of been a converted stable. Nice functional bathroom with a shower and a very comfortable single bed. Lots of free parking outside the property. All in all well worth a stay."

"Bed was comfortable with good pillows. Bed linen felt lovely. Room was clean. AC was not efficient ( on a hot night). Carpet on corridor to rooms on GF, looked and felt like it had seen better days."

"The room was suitable for our short stay, however with such lovely expanse of grounds it was therefore unfortunate that the view from our room was a 12foot high brick wall. Despite there being no air conditioning the room had a patio door which once open cooled the room. Upon request the hotel provided a fridge for my elderly mothers insulin, unfortunately the fridge was faulty and froze the insulin which caused a unplanned medical issue. "I stayed here for work purposes being a short 20 minute commute to Grt Baddow. My work colleague and I were made very welcome. The place was spotlessly clean. Had a lovely bar downstairs for drinks and pub snacks and did a fantastic breakfast in the morning.. I would recommend the full English although there were alternatives, all in all I had a very good stay. I would definitely return to the Oakland if I was working in the area.."

"Really nice hotel. Room was really hot but it was a heat wave and probably not a problem most of the time. Staff were so friendly and helpful especially in the pub for dinner and breakfast. Easy access to train station and travel in to London. Was a nice place to stay outside of all the business. Easy access to Stansted airport too. Would definitely stay again."

"Check in was great, nice & easy and the room was ready straight away. The room was a twin, a great size but very tired. The carpet could do with changing and the shower sealant definitely needs re-doing as it was black in areas. Breakfast was plentiful, could have been warmer but nothing too drastic.
