Very nice property with friendly staff, although they could be a bit overwhelmed in the kitchen when busy.
I would describe it as "rustic luxury." I don't mind giving up a few comforts, but the cold showers were probably the toughest thing to get used to.
A beautiful place to stay, with the best staff. Everybody was so friendly! We even got a free upgrade on the second night to a beautiful suite, thank you! The pool is nice and refreshing. They have 2 trails going down to a river, we didn’t swim there but it was beautiful. Every night there is a movie playing outdoors, on comfortable, private cabañas.
The area is quite touristy, a lot of things to do, and very beautiful and tropical. Hot and humid! We loved the town of Doradal, we ate 2x at ‘Donde el Italiano’, authentic Italian food. Highly recommended! We did not go to Rio Claro or the Hacienda Napoles, we did not have time or energy. But we definitely want to go next time!
We booked the Bosque Suite, & overall loved our stay!
There was plenty to do around the property, including exploring short trails into the forest, checking out the animals (geese, ducks, chickens, & pony) around the property, relaxing in the (small) pool or jacuzzis, enjoying the nightly outdoor movie screenings (Spanish dubs, English subtitles), & spa access.
Everything around the property was very clean, & housekeeping was great in tidying our room daily. We very much enjoyed having a cooked-to-order breakfast each morning.
The suite we stayed in was wonderful overall. It's separated from the rest of the hotel's rooms, offering peace, quiet, & privacy. The space is large, & furniture in good condition. The air conditioning was great in helping us cool off from our various outings! The semi-exposed bathroom was SO cool, especially when monkeys darted past as I showered.
We did, however, have a few concerns while staying in this particular suite. Due to recent storms, some trees had been cut down surrounding the suite, leaving the bathroom window uncovered. This made using the toilet feel more exposed—installing a curtain over the window would go a long way. Additionally, it rained overnight our last night there, & we discovered the hard way that there were two leaks in the roof directly over the bed. When we addressed this with staff in the morning, they were sympathetic, but offered only offered a change of room despite paying for THAT suite, and us checking out that day.
I arrived early because I was having trouble with my vehicle. They said the room wasn’t ready, but they showed me where it was in the same building as the restaurant in the swimming pool. The photographs on the website make the pool look large enough to swim and do labs, but it’s actually quite small.
So after an hour it went back to reception and the girl there said that they were going to upgrade and give me a suite at no additional charge. I said the room I had chosen was fine, but somehow she insisted. So I ended up in a very nice suite, but it was a good distance from the restaurant and the small pool. But after I checked out I realize they had overcharged me. You can pull up the menu and the menus there show prices for the food, but they don’t list prices for any of the drinks. And they were far too expensive by Colombia standards. Regardless, when I questioned them about their attempt to steal extra money, the desk clerk claimed that it was due to a, “Computer Glitch” - COMPLETE NONSENSE! They were trying to steal additional money hoping that I wouldn’t realize.
There were a few positives about the property, but all of that was overshadowed by their dishonor and attempted thievery. No one I know will ever stay there.
