All Saints Church - the south side. All Saints church > 1070159 stands on a hill on the site of an earlier building which is mentioned in the Doomsday book. The chancel dates from the 13th century; the tower, which contains three bells, was added a century later. Its clock is 300 years old and was installed by the Rev. William Vincent in 1872. The church interior > 1070169 -1070170 - 1070183 is much restored and contains a number of C19 and early C20 stained glass windows > 1070177 - 1070178 - 1070180. The church is also used for Benefice events such as holiday clubs for the children. The door is kept locked but a key is available from one of the two keyholders. The civil parish has an area of 8.29 square kilometres and the village is located 7 kilometres east of the city of Norwich, just south of the A47 southern bypass. The railway passes through here but there is no station.

St Margaret's church - porch and tower. St Margaret's church > 917112 - 917130 - 917152 is situated set back from the single-track Witton Lane, and because of its short tower it can easily be passed without noticing. A church was first documented here during the reign of Edward I (1272-1307). Since then the small church, built from flint and stone, has been altered several times, the most extensive restoration work having been carried out in the 19th century. Furnishings and stained glass windows > 917140 - 917144 - 917158 date from this time; the octagonal baptismal font > 917155 is C14; the rood screen was built in the first half of the 20th century. At some time (probably during the 17th century) the tower, the lower stage of which dates from the 15th century, was shortened and its top rebuilt in octagonal shape, topped by a brick parapet; the tower windows have fenestrated brickwork, a style also seen in local barns. There are a number of memorials > 917146 - mainly C19 - the most noteworthy being a 15th century brass > 917151 to Dame Juliana Anyell. The church is kept locked. The field seen in the foreground, with a winter crop growing, adjoins the path in the west. Thorpe St Andrew can be seen in the distance (in adjacent grid square).
