But it was a good value and competitive for the area. We had a standard room, so the amenities were probably not as good as the Deluxe rooms.
Good: The room was medium-large and it had a very large refrigerator for a hotel room! Located close to center of town, with good AC and room lighting. Although our non-Deluxe room was “worn at the edges”, the hotel is almost like an old landmark, with real wood furnishings and some quaint touches (teak tables, painted wood casing around the peep hole, etc.). There was a large rowdy wedding going on in the convention rooms, but it did not bother us much. Maids are nice and responsive. Free breakfast was good for what is was, but seems limited to exactly the same thing every day.
Average: Bed okay. Flat screen TV was small.
Not-so-good: No elevator. Waste baskets were very small and tacky.
Bad: Internet was very sketchy -- a big negative for people without good phone data.
Summary: This is a solid old high quality building with an aging architectural beauty. We felt relaxed staying there -- no problems. It is used for local weddings, etc., so that probably keeps the costs somewhat reasonable. But this shows in the non-Deluxe rooms, which lack some amenities and are showing their age. I hope that there is enough business that investors will see the inherent beauty and cultural value of remodeling this hotel (for example the teak filigree woodwork that decorates the exterior of the old sections, now painted with white paint!).
