Overall, we would not stay at the property again. I’ll start with the positive. The property is tastefully decorated and well kept. Staff is friendly and helpful with recommendations. The location is convenient to the main squares without being a busy street, ideal for us to enjoy Día de Los Muertos.
However there were many hiccups during our stay. On our first day we woke to dozens of tiny winged bugs crawling throughout the room. My young kids didn’t want to step foot on the floor and we feared they would get into the beds and our luggage. The staff said they would look into it, cleaned it and apparently successfully sealed where the bugs were coming in (didn’t see them again). That process was disruptive and unsettling on our first day at the hotel. Then there were several times during our 4 night stay where my family was either without hot water (sometimes in the middle of a shower) or without water altogether. Also the WiFi in our room was spotty, being without it more times than with it. This is frustrating if you need to be connected for work or otherwise.
This was an expensive property for Oaxaca, which we understood because it was Día de Los Muertos but you would expect better for this price point. The property manager promised to look into a rebate for our inconveniences but has not responded to my numerous follow-up. Overall, we would not stay here again, and would look for other properties nearby as the location is convenient and the area is safe.
I recently stayed at Macondo and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The customer service was simply exceptional. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive staff throughout my stay, every interaction was marked by genuine care and professionalism.
The rooms are beautifully decorated, combining modern comfort with elegant charm. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the amenities were top-notch, making my stay truly relaxing.
The hotel's location is ideal, walking distance to great restaurants and landmarks. In short, Macondo offers a perfect blend of luxury and impeccable service. Highly recommended! Thank you Don Jose and Marisol for your attentiveness during our stay.
We had a five stars stay in this new (2024), modern, artsy, cosy, and well located hotel! We travelled as a family of four (2 and 5 year-old children) and had the Mercedes suite. The room was very convenient for a family : king bed and a sofa bed that is large like a king sized bed and a bit shorter. The kitchen with full-sized fridge has been useful for breakfast and snacks, with enough dishes for all. I would suggest to add salt/pepper and oil for convenience. We had a small intimate patio that allowed us to rest while the kids napped, and to dry the towels. The pool area is well equipped with chairs, patio bed and towels, and we enjoyed having a dip every day. The highlight of the hotel is definitely the staff : Marisol has answered our chat messages quicker than anyone and kindly arranged an early check-in; José has been welcoming and helpful for whatever we needed; Margarita and the cleaning staff have greeted us with smiles and have left our room tidy and clean every day. The hotel is less than 1 km from all attractions, but remains in a calm area for rest. We definitely recommend this hotel and would book there again if we went back to Oaxaca!
