The first centre of its kind in the UK that focuses solely on telling the story of the British Civil Wars. Newark was chosen due to the vital role it played in the civil wars, laying at a pivotal crossroads of the Great North Road, Foose Way and River Trent. King Charles I raised his standard in Nottingham back in 1642.
Alternatively a visit to Nottingham Industrial Museum offers a different perspective on the area, with its unique collection of working steam and diesel engines. The museums exhibits reflect local industries such as mining, tobacco and pharmaceuticals.
Theatre lovers will enjoy a visit to the Nottingham Playhouse in Nottingham city centre. The Playhouse provides a wide variety of drama, music, comedy and, of course, pantomime.
Children will enjoy a visit to the City of Caves, a visitor attraction in Nottingham consisting of a caved network, carved out of limestone. In the past it was used as an air raid shelter, accessed from Broadmarsh Shopping Centre.
