the only thing for me I didn't like was the mattress was very hard. I would stay there again, perfect location, great staff and breakfast.

Lovely hotel on Pico island
Lovely hotel on Pico island great breakfast included. Beds are on the firmer side and parking might be a bit of a challenge in peak times but would stay again for sure. Pool area looked great too.

The most depressing hotel we have experienced. The hotel staff was unresponsive, excluding the maids. The beds are extremely hard and like sleeping on a rock. The breakfast was simply unedidble.

The hotel is clean, rooms pretty spacious. Easy and convenient walk to ferry. We would have really enjoyed the bar being open in the afternoon, but it was closed for lunch from 13-17 (very typical for small local places). Since it’s a bigger hotel we were surprised to find it closed. We enjoyed the front desk person who agreed to drive us to and from Sao Roque even though it was a festival night.

The property itself is a little dated but the staff keep it clean. I was pleasantly surprised that the breakfast buffet had very fresh selection of fruits and hot food. For the price point, I would stay here again. The hotel also accommodates transfers around the island for a fee, but it's very convenient to set up instead of looking for a taxi.

Old, tired, smells bad and not clean
Old, tired, smells bad and not clean. Bathroom was covered in limescale, with very low water pressure. Balcony was covered in dust and spider webs, and the outdoor chairs were so dusty. Bad, cheap breakfast. Very dark hotel, like an old hospital. I Will not come back again. And certainly don't recommend it. Very expensive and you will find somewhere better for this price.

Hotel Caravales Madalena Pico Island
Our room was on the outer edge of the hotel overlooking the back of a nearby bar/ restaurant,, not a good view. The balcony only had one chair which was broken, on the seconday, a second chair arrived, also broken. As always with Portuguese people, staff friendly and helpful. Hotel looking a little tired, in need of external decoration. Breakfast Ok, 3* standard.

Mediocre Hotel in Madalena
I was not very happy with my stay at Hotel Caravelas. It is very run down looking and not like the photos on the website. The location is good but it was not worth what I paid.

Definitely not a 4 Star
We arrived to the best hotel in Madalena and found out it was the only hotel in Madalena. Check in was easy that was fine, hotel is ancient. We arrived to our room to experience that sleeping on the floor would have been better then our so called mattress which was probably as old as the hotel. There are no food options in the hotel just a simple ham and cheese sandwich which was mediocre at best. Numerous noises at all hours when someone showers, construction from outside, not peaceful at all. Stay in a B and B Instead. I do have to say however the only positive is that we could walked the wine tasting and museum from the hotel. It was close by and so was Grutas Des Torres.

Good hotel with great location
I enjoyed my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. The location is great if you plan to do activities from Madelana, CW Azores is just round the corner, as are many tour/car rental/cafes and the ferry terminal is just over the road then it's a short hop over to Faial for the day. The room was comfortable, in good condition, cleaned every day and mine had a lovely view from the balcony to Mount Pico. Staff were polite and helpful with a speedy check in when I arrived moment's after a large group and allowed a slightly later check out to accommodate a trip I had booked. The pool is far from Olympic size but it is clean and decent enough to top up the tan and have an afternoon dip and the WiFi works out there. Breakfast is a very well stocked buffet. You'd be hard pushed to think of a breakfast food they don't have. It's not 5* luxury but I wasn't planning on spending my days hanging out in a hotel. It's a comfortable, clean and convenient place for a reasonable price.

Good choice
We came to Pico on a ferry from São Jorge island the hotel location was great even though we had a car we could’ve walked to the hotel. Checking in was fast, room was nice and clean very comfortable. There are quite a few places to eat near the hotel.

Delicious breakfast and great view!
We checked into Hotel late at night for a 2 night stay. The staff had not recieved the itenerary yet, but did not give us a hassle. The breakfast in the morning was delicious with many options . We really enjoyed our stay!

A lovely apartment hotel overlooking Vales. It is too far from the town to walk. Restaurant was closed. Not too friendly and rather scattered staff. Skimpy breakfast. Lovely clean and comfortable room. Great sunset views.

Great location, not much else
Disappointing. Luckily only booked one night. Location was great but can’t think of many more positives. However, did not use any other facilities or have breakfast so cannot comment on these. Room - Bed was pretty uncomfortable. Damage to the walls/paintwork. Bathroom not very clean - stagnant water stains in toilet bowl and mould in the shower/bath. Taps very dirty and slimy stuff hanging from tap in bath. Our view was of the car park so pretty uninspiring but was fine for one night as not expensive. Hard to believe it is a 4 star hotel.

We were told by Pico residents that they did not want or like tourists and they made us feel very unwelcome. The taxi drivers and car rentals were the only ones who were helpful and kind

Very Good hotel and excelent location
The hotel is good but a little careless on the corridor and stairs. The room has a good size and it was nice and light. Breakfast is excelent with choices of bread, cheese, eggs, bacon and pancakes. There is a free parking if you need it. Overall is very good.

Very nice room and excellent bath. Good breakfast with multiple choices. Automatic lights in hallways could activate sooner since it is disconcerting walking into a dark hallway.

Only 'hotel' in town?
Large hotel is very quiet in the winter months - one morning I was the only person having breakfast in a large dining room with an extensive breakfast buffet. Problems:. I had to change rooms because of an electrical power problem affecting my first assigned room; the 'hot water' was merely warm; and the WiFi/internet is unreliable. The staff were very accommodating but they are working in an aging facility that appears to be the only hotel option in Madalena.

Nice Hotel, except for horrible WiFi
Largest hotel on Pico Island but horrible WiFi. Two separate networks - one of Apple and one for PC (neither worked well). Couldn't get signal in my room on the second floor. Had to sit in the lobby to receive and response to email. I had better WiFi in a small hotel in Lajes on the other side of the island. The hotel was good and I would have rated it higher except the horrible WiFi experience. In this day and age, I expect them to have this technology mastered, but it seemed a total mystery to them.

Convenient for ferry
We stay there due to unexpected flight change. We landed airport but had to wait some other members of family there to catch the ferry, in the next morning. Hotel was right next to the ferry terminal. The breakfast was great!! Full of fresh fruit and pancakes, bread, salad, etc.

Very nice hotel in the small town of Madelena. Arrived early and a room was available so we were able to check in early. Desk service was friendly. And while I do not expect others to speak my native English when I travel to their country, all the staff I encountered spoke English. Room was clean; liked the laminate floor in the room - much cleaner than having carpet in the room. The room was a bit small by US standards, but all I needed was a clean place to rest my head near Mt. Pico and this place was great.
