Inside of bldg has not been renovated for 50 years. Horrible smellin hallway - wet dog or mildew. However it was clean and had a nice kitchenette.

While the front desk staff were welcoming and friendly, the building definitely needs a welcoming update. Also for those with mobility issues, this is not an ideal choice as there is no elevator and there are stairs to get to some of the rooms on the first level. The washroom shower stall is small with no handles or shower mats. If you require a chair in the shower, bring your own or choose another hotel (Crown House B&B is accessible upon request). Ice machine available but no vending machines so bring your own drinks and food. The fridge was nice and clean and the air conditioner was a relief. Only one handicap parking space and it was always occupied, overflow caused parking to be very limited on the property.

5 stars Aside from the bloodstains on the carpet and the 1 mouse we saw under the fridge, The place was pretty clean and felt pretty safe. The staff were very friendly. There were no bed bugs or cockroaches I figured there were enough spiders in the corners of the room to take care of all those pests, but did a double check just to be safe. The shower had great pressure. I mean it better cause it sounded like a bomb going off every time you turned it on. The hot water was great for long showers, never ran cold. Definitely give it 5 stars and would book again , definitely entertaining like a game of clue. Who did it, with what weapon, and how.... hopfully it was just a bad nosebleed.

The Lake Cowichan Lodge is an older but clean and comfortable hotel. The room I rented consisted of a suite with a separate bedroom and had a kitchenette with a full size fridge and stove. I would recommend the LCL to any price conscious traveller.

The management hosts are very welcoming and helpful. The kitchenette equipment was missing some basic items , due to guests taking things , ( !? ) , but the management quickly provided some items needed. The suites are large and comfortably furnished, and the beds are too. The Lodge is very quiet and peaceful, and located very conveniently, walking distance to downtown and the Cowichan River ,and very near to the Highway 18 , to access driving Youbou or to Duncan and other destinations up or down island. We have stayed there many times over the years, and always want to go back for another visit. Also, the rates are very affordable ! Thank you, Lake Cowichan Lodge !
