A step back in time..

This was a return journey for us given our first stay in 2023. We ate outside by the river and yet again t was a memorable experience. Great local walks also complement a fantastic environment.

If you want to experience traditional ryokan with fabulous meals, this is the place for you. It is a bit dated like visiting your relative’s house in the small town. It’s surrounded by maple forest, like living in a nice cabin. This is not modern hotel, if you set your expectation right, you will not be disappointed. All the stuffs are so kind and warm. They are great people dedicated to their jobs and it makes me want to visit Kyoto again.

This Ryokan was one of the coolest experiences we have had in Japan. We love the location in the mountains, with easy to access temples and shrines nearby. The staff was very attentive and kind and treated us very nice. Very quiet very humble very Japan.

One of the greatest places to hike and to visit temples and shrines. One of the best staff ever! It includes free breakfast and it is very near Kyoto! Only 50 minutes away from Kyoto station. Must visit!

If you are looking for a genuinely authentic and deeply immersive Japanese experience, look no further than this beautiful traditional Ryokan. While the inn is clearly old, it is immaculately maintained, showcasing a rich history without sacrificing comfort. The location is simply magical. Tucked away from the tourist hustle, the atmosphere is serene, quiet, and peaceful. We truly felt like we were staying in the forest. The property itself is a destination, featuring a gorgeous walking trail that leads along the river and a small path up to a lovely shrine—perfect for a morning hike. Visiting in October meant very few other tourists, making it feel like we had this pocket of nature all to ourselves. The staff are the heart of this place. They are not just excellent; they are caring and incredibly attentive. Their dedication to an excellent guest experience is evident in every detail. They even generously provided a complementary pickup from a local bus stop when we arrived and offer a convenient shuttle service to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and the train station for ongoing travel. Speaking of special touches, the complementary breakfast is a highlight—a beautifully presented and delicious cultural experience you won't forget. A special shout-out to Hiroko Hitomi, who runs this establishment. She truly embodies the spirit of Japanese hospitality, ensuring every guest feels genuinely welcome and special. We spent 1 night at this traditional Japanese inn. Our room was great and it was a wonderful experience to stay somewhere with tatami mats and sleep on futons. The riverside hotel is located in the most stunning, quiet, and peaceful forest. We enjoyed exploring the quiet beauty of it. We chose the half board rate which gave us supper and breakfast. The traditional food was delicious and very filling and eating riverside while it was raining was a highlight of our family trip to Japan. We did not use the onset as it was just too hot outside and have a warm bath did not seem refreshing to us. The shuttle to the train station made things very convenient. The property is old, and can use an update, but it was the location that was important to us. We had a wonderful time.
