Lovely hotel! Great location close to the subway, across from Nijo castle. Staff is friendly and the hotel was nice and clean. We had a great time and wished we could’ve stayed longer. Would definitely stay here again!!
This is a small quiet hotel with clean comfortable rooms with a relaxing decor. Very friendly and helpful staff and if you reserve in advance you can get a private lovely breakfast. Close to subway and bus stations and in a nice neighborhood. As pictured, our room was fairly dark (& we like dim light), but that added to the charm.
Highly recommended!
Well located hotel within walking distance of the subway (Tozai line) and opposite the Nijo-Jo castle. Rooms are spacious and well provisioned. The staff and friendly and very helpful and there is a bar serving great cocktails.
Amazing boutique hotel in front of one of the major attractions of the city. very attentive staff, fabulous facilities and perfect decor. The bar is welcoming and offers a variety of drinks! Thoroughly recommend it
What a pleasant stay at the hotel! The staff, the rooms and location were fantastic! It’s a small hotel, but we found the rooms to be very comfortable with everything you could ask for. The hotel, rooms and area around the hotel were spotless. It had a lovely lounge, so you didn’t need to go far for a drink to relax and unwind after a busy day out sightseeing.
All the staff was so accommodating and answered our questions, arranged taxis and had recommended places to eat.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Ben, while we were there. We had good conversations and he was wonderful young man! We wish him nothing but the best! He is a definite asset to the hotel!
We would highly recommend staying here if you are given the chance. We definitely don’t regret our choice on any level.
Great customer service, very friendly staff. We had shipped our luggage from Tokyo - when we arrived for check-in, the luggage had already been brought up into our room - amazing! Check-in was very smooth - we were served tea, presented with a video to watch on the hotel and provided with tags to ship our baggage to the next hotel. We really enjoyed talked to Is (Isaac) who coincidentally had studied in the same city/country (Toronto/Richmond Hill/Canada) we're from - hopefully one day we'll be able to meet there!
5 stars but only if you get a room with a view and sunlight. Avoid rooms ending in 01 and 02. Check before you book. Lovely, modern, small boutique hotel with about 15 rooms across from Nijo Castle. I stayed in 301, it was oppressively dark. The window has blackout shades and a film over the glass, the reason is it backs to the large Crown Plaza Hotel with a soaring atrium that is full wattage lights at night. The bed was very comfortable. I appreciated the bottled water, tea, coffee and toiletries. There was no closet but there was a small railing with hangars. I was one person, the bed seemed to be a full, I would not do this size room for 2 people. There is a lounge/ bar downstairs thst looked nice but was usually empty. I ate out. My friends stayed nearby for $950 a night and I definitely had thr better hotel. But unless you like dimly lit rooms where you have no sense of day or night, be sure to get a room with natural light. I would stay here again. Location to bus lines, restaurants, and shops was very convenient and we loved walking the neighborhood. At night the back streets are very dark but also very safe, I walked alone with no concern.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Our stay at Hotel Canata Kyoto (Tue, 21 Jan - Sat, 25 Jan) was disappointing, especially for our honeymoon. Upon check-in, there was no acknowledgment of our special occasion, which felt unwelcoming. The check-in process was smooth, but the receptionist, Lee, had confusing communication about the Y2000 land tax, asking us to pay upfront and then telling us we could pay at the end.
The breakfast was inconsistent and frustrating. We had a phone call at 8 am asking if we were coming down, even though we were exhausted, and were told we'd still be charged. The following day, we requested eggs but were told there were none. Later, the staff returned with one egg per person, which didn’t meet our expectations. We opted for cheaper, better breakfast options outside the hotel, which were much more satisfying.
The hotel bar was the highlight. Ankit, the bartender, provided excellent service, offering fresh wine and engaging conversation. While the hotel offered comfortable rooms and decent amenities, its lack of honeymoon acknowledgment and inconsistent service made our stay underwhelming. We were disappointed by the lack of warmth and attention, especially when compared to other experiences we had in Kyoto. We would not return for future stays.
