"Essex Street Inn is a wonderful place. It is conveniently located in the heart of Newburyport, close to many wonderful restaurants and shops. I liked that the Inn is an historic home refitted into an inn. The bed was comfortable and the room was plenty big enough for our needs (we stayed for one night in order to visit the Parker River NWR on Plum Island). The breakfast in the morning was perfect as they had plenty of stuff for a quick grab and go. The staff was very helpful and the room and facilities were very clean and well maintained."

"Before I even arrived, I received a “goodbye” email — not exactly a welcoming start. Check‑in isn’t allowed until 4pm, yet the lobby closes at 5pm, which is incredibly inconvenient and not customer‑oriented. I didn’t meet a single staff member during my entire stay. The room had multiple issues from the moment I walked in. The towels appeared dirty, and what looked like blood stains on one of the pillows was completely unacceptable. The thermostat was set to 68°, yet the room climbed to 85° overnight, making it nearly impossible to sleep. On top of that, a bright exterior light outside my windows made the room feel like daytime all night, even with the blinds closed. Basic amenities were missing — shampoo was provided, but no conditioner. The property sits directly next to a bar, and my window faced the bar’s parking lot, so I had noise, headlights, and zero privacy. The TV didn’t work either. It was unplugged when I arrived, and once I plugged it in, it couldn’t update and had no network settings available. Between the lack of staff presence, the restrictive check‑in window, the noise, the heat, the bright lights, the dirty linens, missing essentials, and broken amenities, this was a very disappointing experience. I would never stay here again."

"Small, cozy place that was outfitted incredibly well, decorated well with warm, neutral colors, and was extremely comfortable. I will definitely go back to this place if I'm looking to overnight in Newburyport again!!!"

"This is a golf resort that has hotel rooms. It is in a very pretty area but It is located in the countryside and not really close to anything so if you are staying there for any other reason besides what is at the property than I might choose some where else. The rooms are very large but the furniture and furnishings are dated. my blinds were broken and do not keep the daylight out. The tavern is good for pub food. Very large parking lot. "

"It was clean. The grounds not fancy, but kept up, but the hotel itself is shabby. It needs some TLC. We were in a nonsmoking room, but you could tell it had once been a smoking room because of the smell. Cigarette burns in the sink and some of the furniture. Breakfast was coffee, juice, packaged pastries and coffee, tea and juice. Nothing substantial, but the breakfast room was clean and pretty."
